I dont disagree but if its borderline in the pay difference between say a big V Club and North.

Houston will want to go to that Big V Club. IMO.

Will be interesting if Port will accept a late 1st or 2nd for Houston.
That may well be the hold up

Houston is apparently on a very good deal for Port, hence why he's looking to move. They locked him up long-term on a team friendly deal and then he became an AA player and is getting big offers to move.
He got word of what Perryman is getting

I know he's not at his peak but id be shoving Laird out the door. Could easily find a good money deal at a Vic club for a late first round or second round pick. As much as most here wouldnt agree that he's worth that, someone will pay it.
Laird is 31 years old and shouldn’t be in our best side going forward, yet is contracted on big money for two more years. Because of this I’d happily move him on but because of this he also has no trade value.

He can still play well with Crouch out of the side (sometimes) but these days is a clear downgrade on Crouch. If anything, Crouch is the one that would hold some currency.

We'd have to stump up some of his salary, which we can afford to do.

If I was a betting man I think 90% chance Houston is gone.

Why?

- Power clearly want him gone to get into this draft. Talking about 2 x first rounders though is dreaming but they could snag one of Saints top 10 picks assuming Battle earns a tier one FA compo pick.

That said, smart time to trade him as aging but 2 x recent AA in the bank means peak sales price right now.

- As mentioned Houston is contracted for way unders from all reports. He will likely sign a new deal and won’t be say 4 years x 600-650k with Power (my guesstimate) but more likely 800-850x 5 years . Therefore he is chasing the $$

- multiple clubs interested from the scrubbers to big clubs like Blues
be interesting to see how they feel if they get whooped tonight

losing houston and theyre getting worse next year not better

Yeah, Houston isn't going to a club not capable of winning a flag.

I dont think theyll get worse, but a few sides around them are set to get even better.

Geelong with Bailey Smith, Hawthorn with Battle and Barass with improvement from their youngsters, Sydney are a query for mine. Carlton SHOULD be better if they can all stay fit, Brisbane will do their thing again with Doedee also hopefully making a return. Bulldogs who knows, but their defence still looks brittle.

I think he is worth a late first but Port have been on the record in wanting more so they won’t accept that.

If the Kangaroo's are prepared to offer a future 1st then other clubs will find the picks.

This is an excerpt from todays news about Steven King. I hope he's okay.

But...

This paragraph shows a critical difference in a club seeking success compared to one seeking comfort. The AFC should hang it's head. We would never have the guts to do this.

"A former skipper of the Cats between 2003 and 2006, King played 193 games for Geelong — including the club's 2007 premiership — before moving to St Kilda for the final three seasons of his career"

Lairds body language and interactions with his team mates at the end of the year were not exactly positive or warm. I won't be surprised if he wants out. Like McHenry, he's another who our game doesn't suit and it would prolly be in his best interests to cruise.
What time do I pick him up for the airport

I would be absolutely amazed if he wanted out, on good coin, and gets to stay in Adelaide, 31 year old, just doesn't seem the type to want to move interstate at this time in his career.

Maybe he wants a chance at a flag, and from memory he has a Vic partner

Laird's attitude has always been the same, people just havent noticed it.

There's a reason why he's never in the leadership team or seen as a leader.

When the chips are down, his attitude has always stunk.
Ive noticed it, a very serious almost grumpy type character.

We’ve done it before - Douglas, Lynch, Talia

But not having the balls to do it now is incredibly annoying

No club's giving up much for Laird. Certainly not a late first or early second, as was hypothesised on the previous page. The only two good scenarios are that either his form improves and he warrants a first 22 spot, or he progressively gets phased out of the side over the first half of next season.

If he left us he might actually be held accountable for some of his poor efforts. He's on the gravy train right now.

Laird won't go anywhere. He runs the risk of finding himself in a situation where he is held accountable. He's far too comfortable for that.

Someone gave up a second rounder for an even more cooked McAdam

Laird is 5 years older though. And we can't budget for a club being that stupid again. North probably the only club that could feasibly be interested, and they're chasing Parker who has more physical size and better leadership traits. It is what it is, Laird's been a very good soldier.

Laird is 1 year older, and a better player with a far better record.

Yes on a bigger contract of course.

I'm sure we could pay half of his salary & get a better pick.

It would be in both parties interests he move on.
