For everyone advocating for splitting pick 2, I get it, it makes sense from a list gap perspective. However something that may not be taken into consideration is the average number of games played by each pick.

If we use pick 2 there is a very good chance that player goes on to play almost 200 games for us.

If we split pick 2 and get say 6 and 13, which is being mooted by numerous posters, on average those players only play
134 and 118 games respectively, which is still a decent career.

I'm not saying this should be the basis of whether we do or don't split pick 2 but it should be considered, the prospect of
200 games from FOS, Draper or Jagga is a very tantalising one.

I see this thrown around consistently on here, and to an extent, it is true. What is also true is that the numbers are skewed massively by Jack Watts/Richard Tambling types that got 174 and 124 games, respectively. Both were shit but had extended careers due to draft position alone.

A good recruiting team can find 200 gamers in any round, but especially in the 1st 30 picks. We simply have to nail them.

I honestly don’t think we have enough top end established talent on the list still to be splitting pick 2 for anything outside the top 5 and top 12. Sheezel is the only one you can really set your watch too atm whilst Wardlaw and McKercher have shown a lot and are promising then Duursma the jury is still out. I’d honestly prefer to keep pick 2.
We've got a lot of work to do i agree and i also agree games are mostly won by run and pressure.
Theres only one reason im advocating splitting pick 2 and thats to make sure we get the key fwd i believe we've been crying out for. I originally thought we'd get him with pick 22, but seems others think its unlikely. Im not willing to take the chance.

It might mean we're still in the hunt for quality runners, but we can sort out so much of our structure long into the future this draft.

Couldn't agree more - true, we need a KPF, small forwards etc, but the real hole in the list is the one left by Tarryn Thomas.

We truly need another quality mid with pick 2 - looking at the draft, it would seem there'll be a KPF talent at our second round
Who do you think in this draft crop has a decent shot at showing the promise of Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKercher and TT?

Cause based on this year's highlights, I can't see them.

Are you guys sure you aren't imagining a standout elite midfielder that - on the basis of this year's form - doesn't exist this draft?

100% this.
Some of the top 10 will be guns but to me none feel like sure things like Reid, Kerch, Sheezal daicos or jhf
It's not a super strong draft for the top end.
Sell pick 2 and draft for needs we will not be missing an obvious superstar.

Freo pick 17 is probably the biggest threat for taking Gerreyn, especially if they trade out Darcy. That would give them a Jackson/Gerreyn mobile ruck/fwd tandem to develop.

I highly doubt he goes earlier.

I think we have already proven that we can recruit 200 + game players in the first 30 or so picks. In the last 7 or 8 drafts we will have at least one in every draft and in some drafts a lot more than one playing 200 games plus baring injuries .

I doubt they will be trading out Darcy out he just sighed for 6 more years. Why would they trade him out first year into a new contract.

Good effort, but let me pitch the scenario to you from the last 2 games of the season - Sheezel misses, and the opposition sit on LDU; what's Plan B?
Our mids need to grow up.
That doesn't improve by taking another 18 year old.
Time for some talls. Lots of options this year.

I get what you're saying, but if we're relying on our 2024 R1 draft pick to save us in that scenario, we are beyond f***ed.

FOS for me + the way we got George back to full strength fills me with confidence re his injury issues.

So we could probably expect Richmond to have:

Pick 6 OR 13 from GC (via Rioli trade)
TWO OF 9, 10 and 17 (via Bolton trade)

Even 9 and 13 gets you two of Trainor, Armstrong and Shanahan.

Happy days.
I think richmond are drinking their own bathwater with how much they value the players that want out. We saw with our pick 1 how much their value diminished when they want out. The talk of Rioli being 2 x top tens is ludicrous, Bolton being 2 x first round equally ridiculous and Baker being a first round pick is also clutching at straws.

When players want out, you get what you are given. Hence why FA trade is so viable for clubs.

Richmond will walk away with 3 first round picks, be surprised if its more to be honest

Oh I don’t think we’re “ beyond ****ed “ but you can certainly see it from where we stand.

We're in a semi terrific spot albeit young and with more to learn! You'd rather be where we are than Essington, St Kilda or Richmond, just to name a few.

Not beyond ****ed at all, we are finally doing the right thing though not particularly brilliant at the trading or drafting thing outside of top picks and throws at the pegs.

How bout 2 2nd rounders you have to trade?
