Hannaford’s aggression, tenacity, pressure is more appealing to me than what Berry has to offer
Pressure is a strong word to use as something to simultaneously celebrate Hannaford and pot Berry for.

Hannaford looks like someone who might have issues with endurance across a game, and puts more into the first effort. Berry has the ability to keep going, and that's going to probably have the greater impact through the course of an AFL game.

Great question

Berry, as a mid, he has Merrett traits. Like how he lifts his head looking for a target. As a forward, has those same Merrett traits, but moreso Higgins. Think he is cleaner of the 2 players

Hannaford, has Butters traits, always looking to take the space in front him with burst speed. Slightly stronger in the air, but also a strength of Berry's game

Personally, Hannaford looks comfortable in both areas, Berry the better forward
Agree that Berry does look cleaner with his kicking, and when he takes off with the ball reminds me of Cotchin a bit in that he lowers his centre of gravity and is well balanced.......Hannaford has great traits as well, and is a ferocious tackler but I just like the neatness Berry has......

I’d love Trainor as that defender we need, but I’m all over Hannaford now. Those last 3 Coates games were very good. immediately thought DeGoey TBH. Has a penetrating kick, takes the game on and is relentless in the tackle. Has smarts as a forward too. Berry I felt was much less impactful and not a bad kick but not penetrating. Good in the open field.

Hannafords a play maker, quick, loves to tackle, relentless just what we need.

If we only have 1 x 1st round pick

Lindsay or Hannaford

Then

Berry, Travaglia

Then

Reid or Trainor

Although, our current 2nd rounder could be used on a KPD
Hannaford - With no massive conviction
Travaglia - Maybe just a little more top end talent.... Still once again, I flip flopped
Reid - By the length of the flemington straight, Reid's decision making is some of the best I've seen for a while and he also kicks goals.

IMHO, Reid has elite hands, vision and reading the play. I worry about his lack of pace and penetration/punch by foot

Yep, this is one time we are very much on the same wave length.

Watching the Berry midfield tape, Higgins was exactly the player I saw. Forces himself to the contest, trying very hard to play a role. Is a far more natural forward. Might be too much analysis, but the more I look at him, the less I am convinced he can transfer to be a gun at the next level. (No, I haven’t given up, but am not as bullish as I initially was).

Hannaford has come late from a decent role playing prospect in the backline, to a high volume, high pressure forward and now a high volume, game smart mid. He is far from a finished product, but again, he is the closest I have seen to Butters in a draft. Has that in built ability to find the ball, it is clearly instinctive. There are players we have all encountered or seen, who just have that ability to be right place. Offensively it is a great plus, but defensively it is priceless. While he would start forward, his defensive will across the park would be a phenomenal addition to our team. He is as hard as a kid could be and will play early.

Recency bias absolutely wins out in this case. He could play in any arc, not tied to one specific role. If we go further back, I see a bit of Carlton legend Harmes. That is a hell of an impression.

Thinking Cooper Lord will already improve us in this space.
I refer you to one Adam Bentick in terms of your expectations here.

Yes Bentick wasn't quick or big, but relatively speaking today neither is Lord.

Much better user of the footy on the outside though.

Big wraps Coona. Wayne Harmes was my favourite player back in 1978-85 era.

Saw him dominate in a back pocket at Moorabbin in the last game of 1978 season. Only 18 years old he was phenomenal and took 16 marks. I like Hannaford a lot, hope he's there for our pick.

I have a strong feeling we are locked onto Trevaglia with our first, if he gets there. Fairly strong chance he won't get there.

Strong Ollie Hollands feel that he is our guy imo.

I think he will play very early straight away. He is a super competitor and driven and strong enough already in body and mind. Just about the best competitor in the draft, fast, instinctively fast mover of the ball, powerful, great overhead, leader, versatile, mad Blue, we've had a look at him in the club already. I really like him. Plays like a killer.

Getting Houston may change things. I can see why Austin is deadset on keeping 12. If we can land Houston by getting 13, then we can maybe assess getting a Berry, Hannaford, KPD type player.

If we can't land Houston, he can go bang on Trevaglia imo, and work with what else picks we can aquire.

Very interesting draft. 12 and 13 are positioned great for the types we need. But it's obviously gonna be hard to get that 13.

Yep, saw elements, not saying anyone is Harmes. I spent plenty of time wearing no. 37 in my youth.

Hannaford just has that “mongrel” and ball radar. Doesn’t have the “silk” that we perhaps are looking for, but in the modern game, with our existing list, he would be a good investment.

The closer we get, the more I like Travaglia. Don’t see HBF as the highest need, but he has the scope to play elsewhere. Just a little perplexed. With Cowan and Wilson developing behind the ball and Ollie clearly keen to continue the late season half back stint. Best available probably gets hm over the line (bust proof)

Guess I am now looking at a dream draft of Travaglia, Hannaford, Clancy Dennis(Harry O’Farrell), Ben Camporeale and Lucas Camporeale (perhaps as a rookie). Big apologies to Xavier Lindsay and to a lesser extent Joe Berry for lack of loyalty.

Interesting to see my man Kayle Gerreyn finish 6th in the agility test. He moves so well for a big man.

Also Thomas Sims doing well for a ruckman/fwd with the 7th best running vertical jump and 9th best agility test.

Although I note that Austin said we’re looking specifically for a key defender so it probably puts these two out of calculations (even though it would allow us to move Lemmey back if we took one).
