If this was a plan they had
Could ;

Move Smith and Burgess to rookie list

Give us 4 spots

7- Reid
8- Smillie
Trade up for Dodson
Welsh
Moving Smith & Burgess to the rookie list doesn't give us 4 spots. We still only end up with 2 spots.

Including ANB/Peatling/Cumming, we currently have 1 vacancy on the senior list, and 1 on the rookie list.

Here's the list maths, in slow form...
Current: 1x senior, 1x rookie
Move Smith to rookie list: 2x senior, 0x rookie
Move Keane to senior list: 1x senior, 1x rookie
Move Burgess to rookie list: 2x senior, 0x rookie

There is no way, without trading or delisting a contracted player, that we can have more than 2 senior list vacancies. Silvers has said that we're not delisting any contracted players, and it's not currently expected that any will be traded out.

Can’t see it happening

Although I’d happily take a Travaglia/Lindsay combo
Can only see it happening if our main targets are off the board at pick 4 and we do a live trade on the night. If we think the next group of guys are all around the same mark, it makes sense to try and get two of them.

My preference is still to keep pick 4 though either way.

Yep, it’s pretty clear what the rest of our off-season is going to look like. The only unknowns are who we’ll take at 4, and who we’ll demote to the rookie list (we’ll have to demote two players, as we’ll need to upgrade Keane to reach the minimum draft selections)

Not sure. My guess is that it would come off your 1st if that was the case.

Note that clubs are not allowed to trade both their F1 and F2, so they should have at least one of them.

We should be asking the AFL for pre-approval of an exemption to that condition around trading future picks.

We’ve drafted a bunch of first rounders in recent years, and next year will have the capacity to trade two years of future picks to get back into the first round.

Given the ‘2 first rounders in 4 years’ rule has previously been given an exemption, absolutely no reason we shouldn’t ask re the ‘next year’s draft picks’ rule.

I’m very keen for us to have the flexibility to flip our 2025 First Rounder into this year’s draft if a player we want is still available (pending list spots blah-blah-Smith’s-2025-trigger-was-a-joke-blah).

... and what draft pick we end up with for Welsh, and (by extension) what picks we have in the 2025 ND.

We can ask... I doubt the AFL would agree, but we can definitely ask.

Today's news from Silver probably renders it a moot point anyway. We now know that we're only taking 2 picks in the ND - pick #4 and (presumably) Welsh. It's unlikely that matching a Welsh bid will require a pick inside the top-40.

Pick 4 would essentially guarantee us access to smith, FOS, lalor or Langford. Either we don’t want either of these guys and we’re attempting another fisher mcasey masterclass move
Surely if they are attempting this, they are not looking at Dodson at one of those picks?.

If we had 7 & 8 (not sure why st kilda would do that anyway? In this draft) then we go best mid available with one of them and i really like travaglia for what he could become for us.

I thought it was a clown fetish.
