Surely the Draper rumours are being made up by us, just to light a fire under ROB

He was fine after he was dropped.

Carrot/Stick he's very much in need of the stick
It's never really been that ROB is a slack guy that needs a rocket.

He's just a player with limited talents. He had a good run with his hands for a short period, but that's not been the norm for him.

There are days where ROB goes for marks with real intent …… and other days he simply sticks his arms up in hope

I think he's a naturally calm, placid guy. Not naturally aggressive or imposing.

The opposite of white line fever so needs some external pushing at times.

He did, I just don’t think that’s great list management to need to use SPP or MSD to find our next premiership ruckman.
How hard should we be pushing to lure a better option?

Would everyone be cool with us pushing some serious chips into the table to attract the "right" guy?

I'm not sure if it is a good investment, seems like overpaying to use a serious wedge of our pie on the ruck stocks.

Strachan has been named in the SANFL team of the year in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

I think that qualifies as "probably the best ruck running around in the SANFL for the last few years".
2018 1st ruck Keegan Brooksby
2019 1st ruck Sam Baulderstone
2020 1st ruck Sam Baulderstone...Paul Hunter on the bench
2021 1st ruck Keiran Strachan.
2022 1st ruck - Harry Boyd...Keiran Strachan on the bench.
2023 1st ruck - Keegan Brooksby.....Keiran Strachan on the bench
2024 1st ruck - Harry Boyd... Keiran Strachan on the bench

Good clubs have been getting decent rucks with second and third rounders via trade.

Can absolutely agree with that.

Knowing that you're the number 1 guy by quite a margin can make a player very complacent.
I wonder how much 2020 being an outlier has to do with it. The whole team was down on performance that year. Is it possible that ROB was always the same player, just everyone else playing career worst footy made him look better than he was? Shit timing for us as he was up for a new contract at the time and you'd have a hard time justifying not paying a club champion well. Other sides would come sniffing if you tried it.

The other thing is what kind of pay packet would Sam Draper expect? We just overpaid a spud ruckman for 4 years, I don't want a repeat of that.

We will overpay but I guess the positive is we won't give up any draft/trade capital.

We must have a heap of cash still but for its probably more the length of contract. I can't see him coming for less than 4.

Reid talked about getting in a 23-25 year old ruck in the coming offseason.
Sam Draper will be 27 at the start of 2025.
Reid either misleading us or we are targeting someone else.
You missed an option - us getting Draper AND a 23-35 yo ruckman.

Given that we're likely having to replace both Strachan and ROB, this option makes sense, without contradicting either the Draper rumour or Reid's comments.

Fair enough. We shall see.
Draper - Free Agent
23 y.o. ruck - F2
Wanganeen-Milera. 2025 first and change.

All I know is McAndrew is highly highly unlikely to be ROB's replacement should ROB use his unrestricted free agency to move back to Melbourne end of 2025, IMO McAndrew's strictly a 2026 Strachan back up replacement at best.

We should still draft a young develop, ent ruck unless Toby Murray is going to concentrate on his ruck craft via the SANFL.
Skills wise T Murray is a mile ahead of McAndrew on every skill level bar ruck craft.
