He did, I just don’t think that’s great list management to need to use SPP or MSD to find our next premiership ruckman.

Just suggests we don’t rate the position and therefore want to spend minimal capital (list spots, draft and dollars)
He did make a decent point that most ruckman can only ruck - so having multiple back ups just stuffs their development

There are days where ROB goes for marks with real intent …… and other days he simply sticks his arms up in hope
The difference between his good and his bad games is stark.
Not saying he doesn’t try but he needs to get his self motivation pendulum swinging the right way

Why not both this year, hedge bets if one of them can pull it off

(Devod we just missed out on Harry Boyd)
Because if McAndrew does the bulk of rucking in the SANFL Toby Murray gets very limited opportunities to improve on his ruck craft.

I don't know how much you've watched of McAndrew but from what I've seen he's limited and Toby Murray has the potential to offer so much more around the ground which seems to be the way the modern day AFL rucks seem to be heading.

Agree .....for a Ruckman, to give ROB some leeway ...there must be games where he plays very sore

Being a RUCK is brutal

I don't think he's not trying hard.

He's just clumsy and slightly out of position. It's a talent question that means he slightly misjudged things.

The guy is obviously one of the hardest tryers you'd ever meet. But being a bit shit sometimes looks like you're not trying to be good (when actually you're just not that good).

2018 1st ruck Keegan Brooksby
2019 1st ruck Sam Baulderstone
2020 1st ruck Sam Baulderstone...Paul Hunter on the bench
2021 1st ruck Keiran Strachan.
2022 1st ruck - Harry Boyd...Keiran Strachan on the bench.
2023 1st ruck - Keegan Brooksby.....Keiran Strachan on the bench
2024 1st ruck - Harry Boyd... Keiran Strachan on the bench
Strachan has been named in the SANFL team of the year in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

I think that qualifies as "probably the best ruck running around in the SANFL for the last few years".

1 time he was named lead ruck, Harry Boyd twice and a Magarey medalist to boot.

Then I think he felt it was something for next year.

ROB in bad form isn't considered as big an issue by them as it is by us.
Maybe their judgment is why we are in the situation we are, Bigfooty needs a seat at the table!

Meh.

Robs best season (he won the best and fairest) we lost 13 games in a row.

To paraphrase the great Adam Sandler "Good Ruckman, Bad Ruckman - who gives a f***"
That’s why he won the best and fairest.
Were were the shittest we’ve ever been.

Exactly. Ruckman have no influence on a teams success.
Well if that were true we wouldn't need a replacement for Strachan. There is still a minimum standard you need to reach. It's just not something a team should funnel a lot of resources into eg. draft picks and salary.

Bont is a ruckman?
Obviously not, I’m sure you can understand the point though.
No one player makes a difference every week.
But we need players who can play football not just nullify in the ruck.

Disagree 100%.

1 player can make a massive difference. Look at Dusty or McLeod - they make a massive difference.

Its just never a ruckman that makes the difference. How many Norm Smiths have been won by a ruckman?

If that was true why do 18 teams field a ruck or 2 every week?

As I have said 1,000 on the is board - a ruckman is like a grade at university - P's get degrees.

You need a bare minimum to pass. Essendon playing without one against us in 09 is a great example. You need a competent/average ruckman to succeed. It doesn't matter if you have an A grade or C grade ruckman - as long as they can compete.

I don't think it's clumsy, ROB gets lazy with his footwork .....on good days, he's in position early, and you can see the intent .....other days, as you say, he's reaching and as a consequence maybe loses strength in the arms

But I can't accept ROB is always giving 100% ......there's too much variance between his best and worst ....as I said B4 I have no doubt he carries injuries from time to time .....that's a potential excuse

Gawn this year also had similar variances in performances ....great days, and days he couldn't catch any ball, or get in the vicinity .....but I don't think he was training all that much during the week with injury
