Why do the Hawks youngsters have more games under their belt than ours... when we started our rebuild first.
Mitchell will become the next genius coach imo.
Outside the square thinker. It was dropped on SEN and is noted on the Saint’s board how his wife Lyndall
was instrumental in the recruitment of Josh Battle , also Massimo D’Ambrosio a last year.
Apparently extremely good at networking and making prospective wags friends and aware of the club.

Their younger players have played more games than ours though... as Mitchell has prioritised getting games into them.

Take out Sloane, Smith & Laird & our average games drops significantly.

Compare their younger players who have played 50+ games to ours.

For players selected in 2024 we average 24.8 years.
Hawthorn and Freo average 25.0 years.

If you sort by last 5 games we were clearly the youngest

More like Petracca finalised wised up and realised his only real option was to stay at Melbourne

No doubt the strategy was for Petrecca to go nuclear and his manager leaked info to the media but now they realise that 1. Carlton and Collingwood don’t have cap space or trade capital to get him in the door, and 2. A contract with 6 years remaining is ridiculously hard to exit

Not a well thought through approach by player and manager

Their only option was the grievance tribunal to void the contract due to duty of care neglect. But doing it would destroy his "brand" and his injury is so bad he may never play the same again, may as well take the guaranteed 6 million in 6 years.

Having 8 players in your best 22 over the age of 27 and 150 games really does help the mean game count. That's no knock on the Hawks either, football is a mid-to-late 20s game.

Plus, the whole they were gunning for finals, we were struggling also influenced seeing teams who are trying to make hay whilst the sun shines are going to select more experienced lineups - and be more resistant to change - whereas teams who are struggling are going to go younger (seeing we were one of the teams who ended the year younger/less experienced then we begun it, whereas Hawks became a fair bit older/more experienced).
