I find it strange that Van Berlo's name hasn't been mentioned for the Eagles job.
Former Perth boy
Club Captain
WCE midfield coach for a couple of years when they were premiers
AFC midfield coach for 5 years
Rocket scientist

Why would that be ?
Maybe he doesn't want the gig?

Pyke also coached VB when Pyke was our midfield coach and VB was a player

Didn't have a great year and was better last year. Still kicked 19 goals in his last 12 games despite clearly there is more to the story between he, hardwick and the suns that we will ever know.

Even another top 5 pick ?? I wouldnt
Our F1 is not worth pick 5.

First, it’s next year. A player picked this year can develop next year and even play next year. Unless it is immediately traded, a future pick is literally worth nothing for a year. Would you rather have $1000 now or $1000 in a year?

Second, the pick is unknown. The range is pick 1 to pick 22 or so (after academy and father sons). There’s a signuficant risk to the buyer they’ll get worse than pick 5.

So, it’s silly to say F1 = pick 5. It might end up being pick 5, but it’s worth much less.

Didn’t Lukosius kick 5 Goals at his happy place in the NT ?

Outside that, need to look at his goL talley in games GC lost

I dont have huge faith itll be beyond P5.

It should be, but im not convinced.

Dermott Bretston currently on SEN …. he’s saying the same …. teasing talent, has had some good games. but not often enough to warrant a long term contract

He was choosing his words very carefully …. never a great endorsement, nor Bretetons usual MO

Are you condemning us to bottom 5 next season?
Why not? Its not a given but I cant see us making the 8
Not every top 5 pick is an absolute star, many just play out decent AFL careers. Luko has room for improvement and would be a top 10 player at our club from day 1.
True. But Luko has also been in the AFL for 6 years and really should have little more improvement to go
I think he is worth pick 10 as is and could become a player worth pick 5. Time is also running out, I'd rather contend while dawson is still around and we won't contend while waiting 3 years for our draftees to build to AFL levels.
We are not contending while Dawson is here . I hate to say it as it means the chances of me seeing another Crows flag is severely diminished but I just see too many red flags in the office to be hopeful

To clarify I would love Luko but he is not a Dawson or Rankine and never will be. He will be a good player for us but I also worry over his desire to play forward while most of us here see a wingman

Daws is 27.... if we dont contend while he's still here (6-7yrs hopefully) itll be a really, really dark time.

Where do you realistically see us finishing based on this year and current coach.

We missed the 8 by 5 games and percentage (10%), food for thought we were just 6 games and % from winning another wooden spoon.

Under Nicks with the similar squad, I cant see us making the 8 again next year as well.

My only caveat being assuming we dont get an incredible draw and also land teams at the "right" time of the year. Even then that will only get us in the 8 at best, we are no where near competing for a flag. We will just be making the numbers.

I think someone mentioned other teams natural progression

Oops thats code for linear

Some teams will drop back some will go past us - I think we will be - once again - on the edge and Nicks gets 2026

That means we were closer to finals than last place ;). We were actually closer to 3rd than Last

I agree. Alot to happen but if you were assessing it from a list management point if view not a supporter its hard to see us making it.

None of the top 8 appear realistic chances to drop out but like always at least a couple will. Probably the Hawks and maybe Carlton.

I'd have Gold Coast, Freo and Collingwood as they most likely three teams to move into the top 8. I think we are with Essendon, the Saints and maybe Melbourne if their best players stay fit in the next group down.

 You have Hawks and maybe Carlton missing the 8. Have you not watched the Hawks this season. They should be closer to top 4 than out of the 8.
