With optus being as hard a ground as it is, Im fine with SDK missing a week.

Also the flight there and back.... wont help IMO

I think that has to be a factor. I reckon if do or die and in Melbourne he would play for sure.

Actually in some ways it is do or die!…but 4 hour flight each way might well be deciding factor (although he would plumb a business class seat!)…

I think the hard thing is that SDK will be feeling no ill effects and will be very keen not to miss. Ultimately the club will make the call on what is best for the next 2 month block.

So they have kept taking a week off Tom’s recovery and he remains on track for Round 24. For me it would take a set back for him not to play against WC. I don’t really know how they fit him in (maybe rest Cameron - doubt it - or Rohan/Henry…I don’t think they will need to rest Scratcher given bye week after and is young)…and then the real decision is week 1 of final. I suppose they don’t make that call until the evidence is clear in terms of form and mix

Reinforcing that we seem to have seen the last of Guthrie for the year?

Rohan is interesting as to whether they give him an extra week? Certainly the evidence is becoming clear that an extra week recovery is ideal if possible post a concussion?

I would say they will rest stanley in round 24 and neale will ruck thats how they will all fit in.
First final though i think hawkins misses out.

does not say "season" like the others- not looking imminent though

Why?

He's a not a better option up forward than Neale as the second tall

He's clueless in the ruck and we're better with Stanley in there

With the addition of the cheaper Jeka in that years rookie draft, he's addition to the VFL side would be impacting the defensive development of O'Sullivan

As we saw for a month post bye, we were happy to play with a defensive unit minus SDK with no replacement tall defender bought into the team - instead we backed in Henry & Kolodjashnij

Either that'll be the combination we go with should SDK miss, alternatively they'll look to have Stanley push back as an additional tall behind the ball like we did in 2022 or we'll utilise Blicavs in that type of role
how did we go?

how did we go?

3-2, and the losses weren't down to SDK not being in defence

The previous 7 matches we went 1-6

I wish Ratugolea well at Port, but I'm pretty comfortable to say we haven't missed him

Better than the previous couple of months.

Thanks, I could not recall, and no time to look it up.

Tom Hawkins Foot 2 weeks
Mark O’Connor Knee TBC
Cameron Guthrie Achilles TBC
Tanner Bruhn Concussion TBC
Ted Clohesy Concussion TBC
Toby Conway Foot Season
Mitch Edwards Back Season

Expected to see Ollie Henry on the injury list - pleasant surprise. Not surprised with SDK. As time as gone on Medicos have obviously changed their advice to needs some action. I would rather he is available first week of finals and have his best chance of playing out the finals series.

“Oh no de Koning was fine he actually could’ve come back on”… proceeds to miss the rest of the regular season. Why are we like this?

Because Scott revels in being vague and sometimes even misleading.

He'll behind the excuse 'but I'm no expert' yet we know he knows. For whatever reason it gives him a kick, or a belief that it gives him an advantage.

For all that, I doubt he'll ever change.

I'm not sure the original comment is necessarily incorrect based on what was known at the time - a minor procedure today & missing 2 or 3 weeks in total could mean there was something floating and this could help ease discomfort more than anything

If the finals started this week, it probably wouldn't be surprising to see him play

I've been living with a left knee issue for 30 years and undergone various treatments for it over that time - different physios, strength training, knee specialists etc

During that period I've had my left knee buckle on me around a dozen odd times, including once when I was simply crossing the road - mind you this was Latrobe St in Melbourne at 5pm and it's the closest I've ever been to throwing up from the pain, and I've broken bones, split my head open etc

6 weeks on crutches until I could start walking at a normal pace again - surgery was never an consideration

Another time I had a specialist tell me I likely had meniscus tear and just take it easy

I've had one physio & specialist talk about surgical options, I've had another specialist say he wouldn't go that path with me knee as I'm not in daily pain - just discomfort that I know how to manage & try to minimise issues it can cause

Treatment for everyday plebs would be a lot different than that of athletes. There's always every chance that after the win on the weekend, knowledge of how damaging the surface at Marvel can be and knowing that we'll have a bit over 3 weeks until finals start is what pushed this decision

Nonsense. He qualifies every medical discussion he has and states outright he's no expert then says what he's been told.

Maybe they’re both correct. We already knew SDK was managing a knee issue which he aggravated during the Crows game. If a minor procedure now means he’s more likely to be fit for the finals, it’s worth doing. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he couldn’t have carried the injury back onto the field that evening, or against Freo.

If there was ever a good time for a 1-2 week injury now is that time. He should be cherry ripe for week 1 of finals.

Couldn't agree more.
Being a young athlete too, he will be fresh. Only concern is we have seen hesitancy from him in the past after returning from injury.

I'm quite buoyed by the injury news. I know many wanted to see Hawkins in round 24, but he is now doing everything in his right to be fit and ready on call.
Not a bad backup to have during a final series. We really must qualify for the double chance as it further enhances any chance he has to come into the side.

Sucks being at the top of this list but when one blooke counts for 356 of them... kinda skews the curve

GO Catters
Between Hawkins and Guthrie that would be what 600+? games alone

Our injury list isn't that bad the bigger problem is who the injuries are to

Guthrie was our best mid before injuries
Hawkins champion of Geelong
Conway future long term ruck if he can stay healthy
SDK number KPD
Bruhn young upcoming mid
MOC versatile player
Clohesy just starting to get a chance
Edwards prospect player

Out of all those the ones who truly hurt are

Bruhn, SDK, Conway, Guthrie and probably MOC(depth) the others would be nice to have right now but aren't 100% needed

So closer to 350? games missing that are important with most of those being Guthrie

It's 496 games missing when you exclude Hawkins
