was told not to attend the Trevor Barker Awards night? I dont know what went on with Josh's negotiations, but it must have ended pretty nasty for the club to take those steps. It looked really uncomfortable on the night with Josh coming 3rd in the B&F and the presenter struggling to even say his name!

No that's exactly what exactly happened.

The club rightfully was concerned about the future direction of the club, Lyon was concerned about his future because he'd lost a lot of money in poor investments.

The club was negotiating in good faith with his manager about a new contract but unfortunately for us, Craig Kelly was completely unaware that Lyon was independently negotiating with Freo.

Lyon jumped because he thought the club wasn't sure he was the type of coach to take the club through the rebuild that was needed.

Simple as that - no shame, no blame on either party (except for Freo who shafted Mark Harvey)

Believe whatever you want to Pebbles… there was a lot more to it than that.

‘Good faith’ is a funny line though. Trying to hide a exit clause in a contract isn’t my idea of good faith.

There is more to it than that.

At one point mid season it appeared a deal was done and Nettlefold dragged his feet because he didn’t see eye to eye with Ross.

Ross wanted a deal done as early as pre season.

Both parties are to blame. But a few egos got in the way of a successful period at stkilda when we needed clear heads and a strong leader when about to embark on a rebuild after nearly a decade of success that fell short of a flag.

Our board at the time was divided on wanting the boss extended..their procrastination was a major reason for Lyon to leave!
