I mean, if we're looking to split pick 2 then why don't we split it for say Essingtons pick 8 and their future 1st. I don't see them doing any better next year.

Then you can keep our F1 on the table for Houston and still have a good first pick next year.

If Port aren't interested then walk away.

If we brought in
Houston
Parker
Daniel
Darling

That's enough improvement in my eyes for to end up in a similar finishing position to the bombers next year anyway.

This thread is so confusing. The same people saying don't trade picks for anyone unless they're elite talents, are also turning their nose up at an elite talent. Houston is elite.

You're not bringing in an elite talent 22-24 year old to a 17th placed club like people here are wishing for. Houston is basically falling in to our lap out of circumstance. Something that rarely happens.

You build a wall a brick at a time. You don't sit around hoping the bricks just fall in to place over time. Houston would be a big tick for continuous improvement.

Love Houston. Reckon he is a dead set gun. But I just don’t know if now is the right time to bring this type of gun in and use an early draft pick. If we had come off a 9 win season, and looked like the next step for us is finals, different story.

I know next to nothing about list building, but I’m trying to use Melb 2013-2020 as my guide. To me we are very similar. Horrid losing culture, and half the side are dead set bush footballers.

Through that period, Melbourne built through the draft, but added mature (some would say ‘past it’) footballers such as Vince, Jeff Garlett, Jordan Lewis, etc, that didn’t cost a crazy amount in draft capital, but Melb probably would of had to overpay in coin to come. Similar to us with Darling, Parker and co.

The big swings of Lever and May (which cost heavy draft capital and coin) didn’t come until they had already come 9th, and those guys they had brought in from the draft, were hitting their sweet spot. We aren’t there yet.
I'm the same I'd rather use a future 3rd on Caleb Daniel

and if we were to use our future first on someone I'd go for SDK as someone younger who will be here long term

As soon as Carlton get some other picks in and their first becomes a viable trade asset, Houston will be nominating them faster than Caleb Daniel tested over 20m

Didn't think there had been any talk of Laverde at North? From what i've read he is talking to 3 other clubs (St Kilda, Coll and Geel) with apparently St Kilda leading the charge (what's new)? Although I would have thought he'd be a good addition for little outlay to support our defense, and possibly allow Chom to either move forward or be freed up to play that intercepting defender role with more freedom.

And per a lot of other opinions here I really hope that we are not serious about Stringer.

Laverde is very similar to corr.
Ok defender but has at least 1 brain fade a game.
Pass for mine.

Carlton is an interesting one with trade capital in regards to their playing list, as their quality is so heavily aligned with a handful of players. Cripps, Walsh, Curnow, McKay and Weitering, with the young ruckman looking like he might be half handy.

The rest are a mix and match set. So if you are port Adelaide, and you wanted some extra with pick 12, which of any players outside those guns would you want from Carlton that would make port better.

Owies? Really what does he do better than Paul Curtis.

He’s not a crumbing /pressure small fwd. pass. Effectively he is the same small/mid forward we actually have plenty of.

I hope we don’t go over the top trying to get Houston ideally splitting 2 for a top ten and a teens pick with the teens pick going to port would be my limit. As good as he is remember, he has a 28yo flanker. I hope we don’t get tunnel vision and try to get him and end up giving away more than that.

I’d have a sniff at Kennedy, looks like darling/parker are likely.

If we are going to dilute 2 I’d either want to retain a single digit pick or use the pick to get a KPP either through trade if one magically became available or downgrade to a pick where one is likely to be available but the other part of the split should be somewhat valueable (ie first round after compo/academy picks) or a good player (not a young fringe player)

Maybe this is why the Midweek Tackle panel were talking up a Cerra trade a couple weeks back.

And why Carlton are looking to trade Kennedy for a second rounder, if they can.

Daniel was one I was always surprised seeing left on the outer. Was a key piece in their success.
Yes he's a bit older, but not sure he was left out due to him dropping off significantly - looked more to be a case of them not being able to fit him in after shifting some players around.

Either way, he's not going to cost us much now. Could do worse as a fall back to not getting Houston.

Daniel has just turned 28....

Geez, so many on here complaining about the club actually sorting out players to improve the team.
Haven't been watching much of the last 4 years have you?
Owies literally does not improve us one bit. He's Paul Curtis with more limitations. We need a small forward, not a medium forward in a small forward's body

Anyone who had Owies in any same game multis could tell you that this is not true. King of the Houdini

The gap btw top and bottom back that was pretty big.... apart from maybe syd and bris although syd have been beaten by 100 pts this season, I'd say the gap is alot closer.... hawthorn showed that....fcuk • were in top 4 for some of the season. A few mature quality additions and couple more elite draft picks we can start pushing up quickly

Its not so much that, more like identifying players who either compliment what we have or provide something we lack

FWIW I don’t mind Darling as long as we are clear on our expectations as fans,(ie he will assist not star) , I like Parker, Houston (provided we don’t pay too much), I’m open to Daniel, I think Kennedy is interesting.
