Not from me. I always thought he was depth. Voss loves him
Looks like a mirror image scenario of Fantasia last year, a once very good player who is nowhere near capable of producing close to that past output anymore and never will be…
But hey let’s keep persisting because it might miraculously turnaround sometime…

Long time lurker - first time poster here:cool:

A little more composure in front of goal last night and we go close to winnign that game 0.4 to 3.1 last q not helpful. Feel like the game flipped a bit when Mot's goal became a point and they goaled soon after, would have been nice sitting in half time with a 16 point lead.

Long year ahead and no need to panic - those of older vintage will recall we lost to Fitzroy R1 1993 and made the Grand Final that year, imagine the melts from that result now.

Anyway - McKay comes back in - I'd rather keep SOS forward and Kemp goes back. Keen to see White & Wilson soon. I cant see how Docherty keeps his spot, 54% disposal efficiency and looked a mile off it.

Go Blues
Great first post :) totally agree with you.

Can't believe people comparing Jack to Harry...

Yes Jack missed set shots... not dissimilar to Harry... but Jack also had:

  • 18 pressure acts
  • 7 score involvements
  • 5 of his 6 Tackles were i50
  • 2 contested marks
  • 1 goal assist
Here's what Harry did last week:
  • 5 pressure acts
  • 5 score invovlements
  • 1 tackle... 0 i50
  • 2 contested marks
  • 0 goal assists

One is getting paid a packet of chips compared to the other...

Yep. Spot on.

I would hope someone like Aaron Hamill gave it square in the eyes to Harry after last week. One of the most 'weakest' performances I've seen from him playing on a 4th gamer.

Lots of our guns from the last 2 years are nowhere near their best form at the moment.

Walsh is ineffective.
Curnow was a shell of himself.
Doch sadly is past it (how did he drop that mark)
McKay - injury cloud

For a 'top heavy' team, 4 of your best 7 being horribly out of form hurts big time

People wanting changes and playing kids will be disappointed

Voss praised his players last night and will keep backing this group. Told them they are building

McKay in could be only change

That’s ok.
At least when he walks the plank he won’t have any regrets and be safe in the knowledge that he did it his way until the bitter end.
Just brutal for supporters to see a 10 year rebuild amount to nothing …

I wouldn't be against seeing McGovern play further up the ground as the 3rd tall forward - providing a good leading option/link man.

He is one of the few players with enough acceleration to find some space and is generally a good field kick into 50.

Kemp to the VFL – Develop as a Forward

Kemp needs to go back to the VFL and play exclusively as a forward to earn his spot at AFL level. Right now, he looks completely lost—his positioning, awareness, and footy IQ just aren’t where they need to be. Physically, he’s got the tools to be a weapon, but until he develops the smarts and instincts of a dangerous forward, he’s not offering enough. Let him grind it out, build his craft, and come back when he’s ready to have real impact.

Young Over Haynes & McGovern – Time to Move Forward

I thought Young looked better down back than both Haynes and McGovern if not in skill then in overall consistency of effort. This should be the year we move on from McGovern in the best 22 and focus on the future. Silvagni can play the role we expect from Haynes/McGovern more effectively, and we all know you’ll never question his effort. The only way one of those two (McGovern or Haynes) stays in is if SOS doesn’t come up from whatever niggle forced him off the ground.

Boyd In – Quarterback from Half-Back

Boyd comes in to provide the skill and composure that’s missing in our defensive half. If his foot skills are as good as people say, then he should be given the role of the primary ball-user out of defence, allowing Saad to focus on his attacking run. Cowan can be developed across the year, while Hollands moves into the wing/half-back rotation that the club envisioned for him. Wilson comes in for much-needed pace and experience at AFL level.

McKay In, Moir to Start

If McKay is fit, he comes straight back in—simple as that. Curnow should improve with another game under his belt. The addition of Moir should give us some spark, but I don’t want to see him thrown in as the sub. He needs to start and play a full game or, if he’s not quite ready to run out all four quarters, be subbed off late. The best way to develop him is to push him and let him feel what’s required at AFL level over a full game.

Docherty – A VFL Reset Might Be Needed

We all love Doc, no question. But if he can’t handle the pace and pressure of AFL right now, he needs to go back to the VFL for a few weeks. Give him time to find his legs again, regain confidence, and help mentor the younger guys. If he can build back into form, he earns his recall—simple as that.

Still very, very flat.

We are our own worst enemies. No reliable method of ball movement, zero forward structure or system and very ordinary skill level. Poor conversion.

There are positives though. Effort, intensity and pressure much much better. Play like that every week and take our chances and we will win more than we lose.

There is a lot of angst currently, which I totally understand and am part of I guess.

Just hope internally they can take confidence from last night and get a win next week. We all desperately need it.

Genuine dilemma with JSOS - has looked our most dangerous forests, but his goal kicking accuracy is poor. Did look solid down back.

If he goes forward then Kemp has to be moved. Does he get shifted down back or is that it for Kemp?

That then leaves us with Weitering as our only competent KPD, leaving us with Gov, Young and Haynes who are all liabilities. That’s a damming backline.

I’d rather JSOS stays back for stability. Shift Gov to the forward line and he and Kemp can fight it out for a spot. Or kemp goes back and Young makes way.

It often feels like picking the lesser of two evils when deciding ins/outs and lineups - rather than choosing players with a focus on their positives we are often choosing players on the basis that their deficiencies are not as bad as who they can replace. Such a $hit way to observe things.

Nailed it.

I like Kemp forward, I agree that he has the weapons but just needs more experience (via VFL).
Mc Govern is just not a defender, not in his bones at all. He has absolutely know idea. I hold the line coach responsible for that.

At this point I think we’ll win.

Will be interesting to see how they perform tonight but as attractive as I find their brand of footy I don’t think the Bulldogs are a top 4 threat this year.

I do wonder whether we need to actually see him in that 3rd tall role behind McKay/Curnow before omitting him. It's the role the club clearly envisaged for him when they moved him forward in the pre-season. He's definitely not cut out to be the 2nd KPF in our team.
