Haynes is rubbish. Just a nothing player. He and young need to go. Get Matt Carroll in the backline and push sos back if Harry and Charlie are ok.

Walsh can go to the wing until his mobility returns.

None of that will happen. Maybe Young out. Embarrassing player. Demoralising.
Haynes is terrible. Him alongside McGovern and Young is a debacle. We still couldn't defend anything unless Weiters is in the area.

If Charlie isn't right, don't play him. Was a total liability last night.

People wanting changes and playing kids will be disappointed

Voss praised his players last night and will keep backing this group. Told them they are building

McKay in could be only change
Not aimed at you Soapy...but why has Haynes found himself so much loyalty and backing? What has he done other than be experienced?

Unless there is injuries it will be McKay for Young. That's it

Not what I would do but that is the way Voss roles
A shame most of our quicker small forwards are all injured. White, Durdin and Fantasia.

I hope Billy Wilson plays a blinder tonight to really put his hand up. Carroll will be a perfect option for Haynes once fit.

So, assume we will see Harry, Charlie and Kemp up forward together for the first time. Question mark as to the fitness / standard of Charlie and Harry.

Charlie playing down v Hawks just indicates to me there is a clear loss of trust and confidence with our key defenders beyond Weitering. And fair enough too - Gov and Haynes are a disgrace, and JSOS has already shown more because he has two things they lack: smarts and endeavour.

I hope they start training Harry to play CHB. If he goes down back then maybe we can find the elusive partner for Weitering and fix that problem. JSOS goes forward. Yes, Harry is more dangerous, but JSOS is smarter and frankly nothing separates them in terms of their poor kicking for goal.

Brisbane started last year 0-3. It's not the end of the world peeps. Stay positive.

Haynes is terrible, I'm not sure why we persist.

Harry in for Young. Riot act on inside 50 entries in training next week, we have a solid chance.

McKay takes marks but kicks points. Soft and fragile.

Silvagni takes marks but kicks points. Heart and sole player.

People see what they want to see.

I wish it were that simple. It's the manner in which you compete. Nobody was down on Harry last week purely for kicking points.

Can we just get back to basics? Starting with stopping playing players out of position.
Seems we always lose these game at the selection table, by bringing the wrong players in, playing them out of position, making the wrong player sub, subbing the wrong player out...

SOS forward
Kemp back
Doc back
Ollie to wing
I'm 50/50 on Williams. Keep him forward for now.
Campo shouldn't have been subbed out, Doc should've. And it should've happened late in the 3rd.

We need an accumulator and level headed general down back with Newman out, so Doc simply HAS to play there.
Give him a couple of weeks back in his natural position to see if his form comes back.
Bringing Young in for Harry was quite simply stupid. No other way to say it. If he was brought in to give TDK a chop out in the ruck, he only took 7 ruck contests, to TDK's MASSIVE 97! I think that proves he can pretty much do it alone. Just chuck a couple of other bodies at it when he needs a rest. I'm not a big fan of Cripps rucking, but I'd rather him take the 7 that Young took and let SOS and Harry pick up the rest of the slack. Let Gov or Kemp take a few in D50. That's 5 players who could take half a dozen each to lighten the load. Should have brought Moir or Evans in.
Playing Weiters, Gov, Haynes and Young against Chol and a bunch of smalls was insane. We had the chance to correct it with Harry missing and went the opposite way.

OUT: Young and Haynes
In: Harry and Moir (interchangeable with Evans, but I'd like to see Moir get a crack again)
Lucky: Doc, Hollands (these two get a crack at their proper positions before getting dropped), Curnow (needed the run), Lord (despite only having 3 touches in the 4th, I thought he did some good things. Not his fault he wasn't brought on sooner).

Can't believe people comparing Jack to Harry...

Yes Jack missed set shots... not dissimilar to Harry... but Jack also had:

  • 18 pressure acts
  • 7 score involvements
  • 5 of his 6 Tackles were i50
  • 2 contested marks
  • 1 goal assist
Here's what Harry did last week:
  • 5 pressure acts
  • 5 score invovlements
  • 1 tackle... 0 i50
  • 2 contested marks
  • 0 goal assists

One is getting paid a packet of chips compared to the other...

Last week I called for the following to be dropped to set standards:

Harry, Gov, Haynes, Motlop

Harry didn't play anyway. Haynes was poor again, Gov and Mots whilst better than last week (which is as low as the bar can go anyway) were still average.

We were gonna get pantsed without these guys apparently... yet with them minus Harry, they didn't really do much anyway.

Because of their "better" showing last night, their spot is now secured.

Docherty is a liability. But his spot is also secured until he retires.

I just can't see us getting to the top 4 carrying all these players with their conditional performances alongside other passengers like Fogarty.

This side is crying out for a change in energy...

Lucas is just not ready. He panics and kicks long to players like Motlop and Williams when they're also outnumbered. He should be getting some development time in the 2's... but gotta get that feel good story in don't we Carlton?

Long time lurker - first time poster here:cool:

A little more composure in front of goal last night and we go close to winnign that game 0.4 to 3.1 last q not helpful. Feel like the game flipped a bit when Mot's goal became a point and they goaled soon after, would have been nice sitting in half time with a 16 point lead.

Long year ahead and no need to panic - those of older vintage will recall we lost to Fitzroy R1 1993 and made the Grand Final that year, imagine the melts from that result now.

Anyway - McKay comes back in - I'd rather keep SOS forward and Kemp goes back. Keen to see White & Wilson soon. I cant see how Docherty keeps his spot, 54% disposal efficiency and looked a mile off it.

Go Blues

I would probably only consider dropping players who have had 2 bad games in a row.

So Haynes, Acres, Fogarty, Williams, Kemp, McGovern, Lord and maybe LCampo (just not 100% ready).

Who I'd bring in depending on how they play today.

Binns Binns Binns.
Carroll, Wilson, Boyd, Moir and obviously Mckay.

Orazio should come back through the VFL.

Side I would pick that Voss won't

B: Boyd Silvagni McGovern
HB: Cottrell Weitering Saad
C: Walsh Cripps Lucas
HF: Williams McKay White
F: Kemp Curnow Motlop
Foll: TDK Hewett Lord
Int: Cerra Carroll Hollands Cowan
Sub: Wilson

Run Run Run and better ball use

I don't mind it. Can I ask what your plans are for Cowan and Carroll though? 8 defenders or Cottrell rotating forward?

You know what the problem is?

Lord should never be sub. NEVER EVER.

For a club a pathetic as ours when it comes to developing the next generation of genuine footballers (arguably the worst), they should not ever be having our youngest and most promising prospects collecting dust on the bench while the dinosaurs limp around for the entire game.

Clubs like Hawthorn get the memo.

Probably explains why Lord didn't perform all the great in the last quarter. Probably mentally shot. Can make it seem the coach has no faith in him.

And I want some potential run and flare at half back.

Carroll and Boyd need to be playing. Binns and Moir in the side too.

And don't give me this 'they are underdone or their performances don't warrant a call' because I sure as heck am not seeing much from many of the players in the main side that warrants them to retain their position.

Other clubs are pulling out surprises. They are rewarding debutants and investing in the fresh blood. They are making the necessary changes

We on the other hand, are STALE!

This team needs to start putting the faith in its own younger crop and proving it can build and manage a strong development program.

Less Haynes, Young, Fantasia and Evans type of players.

More of what are originally our own.

I don't expect such changes because of the staleness of this team right now. But in an ideal world, we should be seeing fresh names playing next Friday. Even a debutant or two.
