That should give us some run off HB and hopefully prevent the temptation to stick Cerra at hb.

Walsh on the wing is an upgrade on Lucas who just isn't AFL ready yet. It also gives Walsh some space so his disposal is not hurried every time he gets the ball.

Moir adds a bit of flare to the forward line. If his tank isn't up to it, we can move a few pieces around here when we sub him off, we bring in a runner like Binns. Jack needs to play forward, I don't care about the off season training, Kemp just hasn't been able to put it together and he's on his last chance to show something here... kept in mainly because I see an opportunity to stretch the Dogs back line here a bit.

Kemp is the one, I am on the fence on whether to persist. I think you need to see how he goes when curnow and mckay are up and running. Silvagni back-yes we sacrafice a bit but he allows a faster structure

Yeah - he defintely needs to start showing something.

Im a little concerened that he could only be viable with both Harry and Charles in the side. That ceratinly wont always be the case and we need a reliable third tall.

Would almost prefer to keep SOS forward as he looks good on a lead and persist with our defence as it is atm, as questioanble as that decision may be, with exception of fitting boyd in if fit and in form. I miss his 50m kicks out defence to our advantage

I do wonder whether we need to actually see him in that 3rd tall role behind McKay/Curnow before omitting him. It's the role the club clearly envisaged for him when they moved him forward in the pre-season. He's definitely not cut out to be the 2nd KPF in our team.

I'm not going to suggest it's not a valid question because it is.

However, in saying that, his footy IQ and awareness has been very poor. I don't see how that improves with both KP's there - I think it would exacerbate it given the varied responsibilities (in some aspects of awareness and IQ there's more) - but I can see why the MC would like to see how that performs before making him learn forward craft in the twos.

This won’t happen but my idea to improve our forward entries is to play Saady up the ground in the high half forward role.

He’s a good kick and he’s good at those short kicks and as well as the longer kicks but he also provides some explosiveness and speed.

Bring Boyd in and let him be that Newman role with his kicking skills and entries outside of defensive 50.

We need Vossy to put his ego aside and try something different.

We need to stick the change (hence why I was shocked what we did yesterday), as we have been training these guys all summer in their new roles. Just baffling.
I think the issue is McGovern and Haynes back with Weitering and JSoS. Can't play all 4, so one of Haynes or McGovern makes way. I know who I would move on but either way, this must be the structure.
I feel for Young but I can't put him on front of Weitering or JSoS. I can play him infront of McGovern and Haynes however but will Voss do it.

Kemp or JSOS. One or the other. Can't have both IMO. But JSOS is just a natural forward to me.

The JSOS experiment lasted three quarters … think it’s a micro example of a macro issue.

Genuine dilemma with JSOS - has looked our most dangerous forests, but his goal kicking accuracy is poor. Did look solid down back.

If he goes forward then Kemp has to be moved. Does he get shifted down back or is that it for Kemp?

That then leaves us with Weitering as our only competent KPD, leaving us with Gov, Young and Haynes who are all liabilities. That’s a damming backline.

I’d rather JSOS stays back for stability. Shift Gov to the forward line and he and Kemp can fight it out for a spot. Or kemp goes back and Young makes way.

It often feels like picking the lesser of two evils when deciding ins/outs and lineups - rather than choosing players with a focus on their positives we are often choosing players on the basis that their deficiencies are not as bad as who they can replace. Such a $hit way to observe things.

Think this is an intriguing point. The biggest positional need in our team for a number of years has been the 2nd KPD. Apart from Young who should be a backup, JSOS is the only one that can maybe do it. Kemp, Haynes and McGovern are all 3rd banana/intercept type. They are not capable of playing on key forwards. I would go Weitering, JSOS and Kemp, who I still believe is an intercept defender.

In 2023/2024 when our makeup was Weitering, Kemp and Gov, Kemp averaged more intercept marks than Gov in both years, DESPITE the fact he was playing as the 2nd key back, and DESPITE the fact he played the end of 2024 up forward which lowered his average.

Regarding JSOS, with all due respect to him, he has never kicked more than 20 goals in a season in 8 years. He is a good goal provider though I will say that. But if he has been our best forward in 2025, that says more about how 'poor' the rest have been rather than how 'good' he has been. McGovern is statistically and characteristically the perfect man to complement curnow and mckay.

Darcy is going to be an issue height wise. Once he gets those hands up you won't get close. Not sure Weitering will get away with playing from behind. Probably has to be side on and try and outbody him.
