So this is my thinking. I am thinking this could be an all encompassing 21st century mock draft. This is we line up every player drafted in the 21st century as an 18 year old, knowing the players they became and we decide who goes where.

For the draft order I am thinking the current ladder

So

Pick 1 - North Melbourne
Pick 2 - Richmond
Pick 3 - West Coast
Pick 4 - Adelaide
Pick 5 - St Kilda
Pick 6 - Brisbane
Pick 7 - Hawthorn
Pick 8 - Western Bulldogs
Pick 9 - Melbourne
Pick 10 - Gold Coast
Pick 11 - GWS
Pick 12 - Fremantle
Pick 13 - Collingwood
Pick 14 - Geelong
Pick 15 - Port Adelaide
Pick 16 - Essendon
Pick 17 - Carlton
Pick 18 - Sydney

and so on for 3 rounds.

The rules are to treat this like an actual mock draft, so pick the player who is either best available or best suits your list.

So my general idea is people will nominate a club they want to pick for, and hopefully we get enough people who want to participate so we don't have any double ups. I hope to go for 3 rounds but we will see how it goes.

Now the rule here is that you are only able to pick players who were drafted in the 2000 draft or later, I know technically 2000 is not the 21st century but these players would have only started playing in 2001 which is the 21st century. I have also made some lists of players who have won the All Australian at least 3 times, but also included some other awards too, but by no means do you only need to select from the list.

You are also free to nominate someone who has been retired for 5 years, or if you feel really confident, happy to include a player who is only in their second year, if you believe they have enough talent to be ahead of more established players. For instance it would not surprise me if Nick Daicos or Harley Reid end up in the first or second rounds despite having very little experience compared to a lot of players on this list.

The Tigers were 50/50 on whether to take a young Scott Pendlebury to play on a wing in his first season and fill a big hole in the list or draft a gun key forward to work with Tom Lynch and replace him in the coming seasons. The previous selection made the decision for us and the club is thrilled to welcome Jezza

With pick 23, St Kilda select Scott Pendlebury.

Danger and Pendles were guns almost from the start, and even now are great players/leaders as veterans.

"Pendlefield" or "Dangerbury" would be an ominous combination, with a serious injection of class to complement Dangerfield's brute force and elite contested game.

Alright, moving on from my blooper...

I am still looking at St Kilda's midfield and thinking we are one high quality player short, even if the recently drafted youngsters reach their potential. We have a bunch of good utilities/flankers and a good defence. Our forward line needs work but we can find a bargain in the next round.

We need another game changer. If the class and poise of Pendlebury isn't available, let's go with more of a midfield maverick. One whose best 5 year period was around the same level as Ablett and Judd.

With pick 23, St Kilda select Dane Swan.

"DangerSwan" will be a force for the next decade or more.

I think we allow it. Would be pretty rough especially as he was on the original list given. And he didn’t debut until 2001 anyway.

Note- Stephen Milne was in that rookie draft so he is eligible.

It's his elite offensive ability that attracted me. I was sorely tempted to take a Bomber but decided against it.

True, between he and Andrews they would be the Inspector Gadget Twins, intercepting and rebounding at will. That would be a tough defensive core to cut through, with how well they read the play.

Hawks were happy to wait for the latter round for midfielders but wanted to make an exception for a big, bullocking line breaker who can also play forward, complementing the current midfield nicely (none of whom kick goals)

In other news, Jason Dunstall has just been reappointed Hawthorn goalkicking coach.
 
Given the Bulldogs and Suns stocks of key forwards, it looks like Melbourne and GWS are going to get to raffle off J-Roo and Tomahawk with picks 27 and 29. Talk about bargain selections!
