So this is my thinking. I am thinking this could be an all encompassing 21st century mock draft. This is we line up every player drafted in the 21st century as an 18 year old, knowing the players they became and we decide who goes where.

For the draft order I am thinking the current ladder

So

Pick 1 - North Melbourne
Pick 2 - Richmond
Pick 3 - West Coast
Pick 4 - Adelaide
Pick 5 - St Kilda
Pick 6 - Brisbane
Pick 7 - Hawthorn
Pick 8 - Western Bulldogs
Pick 9 - Melbourne
Pick 10 - Gold Coast
Pick 11 - GWS
Pick 12 - Fremantle
Pick 13 - Collingwood
Pick 14 - Geelong
Pick 15 - Port Adelaide
Pick 16 - Essendon
Pick 17 - Carlton
Pick 18 - Sydney

and so on for 3 rounds.

The rules are to treat this like an actual mock draft, so pick the player who is either best available or best suits your list.

So my general idea is people will nominate a club they want to pick for, and hopefully we get enough people who want to participate so we don't have any double ups. I hope to go for 3 rounds but we will see how it goes.

Now the rule here is that you are only able to pick players who were drafted in the 2000 draft or later, I know technically 2000 is not the 21st century but these players would have only started playing in 2001 which is the 21st century. I have also made some lists of players who have won the All Australian at least 3 times, but also included some other awards too, but by no means do you only need to select from the list.

You are also free to nominate someone who has been retired for 5 years, or if you feel really confident, happy to include a player who is only in their second year, if you believe they have enough talent to be ahead of more established players. For instance it would not surprise me if Nick Daicos or Harley Reid end up in the first or second rounds despite having very little experience compared to a lot of players on this list.

So here we go

We're a side that's crying out for a gun key forward or gun key defender and he drafts Coughlan, a mediocre midfielder in a shit Richmond side.

Should be a veto function. Me, PhoenixBonez and boncer34 should be allowed to protest!
I think we should get replacements for double ups eaglespremiers might be keen

He's my all time favourite Tiger and close to the best I've seen at his best.

Plus, what draft would be interesting without a bolter?

I like the cat amongst the Pigeons impact on this draft, but I feel it would be like myself taking Kade Simpson for the same reasons when Luke Hodge is still available!

There's a bolter and then there's picking Blaine Boekhorst at pick 19.

Port are in the toughest spot. Need an elite KPD and KPF. Tom Stewart was solid but missed out on a lot of elite forwards. I would have considered Stewart had he not been taken.

Not sure who's left. Lynch and Kosi prob the best I can think of unless youre punting on Waterman

Still alot of good KPP players left.

Lynch would have been my selection if Hawkins wasn't available, and just back your fitness staff and the injury gods to get a better run with injury...

They have an elite key defender in Aliir alongside two solid ones in Zerk and Rat. A key forward is definitely a need thpugh

Who's Kosi (surely you don't mean Justin Kochitzke)?

Still a few pretty handy KPF's around, including:

Tom Lynch
Taylor Walker
Joe Daniher
Travis Cloke
Nick Larkey
Jack Darling
Harry McKay

all of whom have been All Australian, with a bunch more decent options on the next tier...

Justin koschitzke yes. He would slot in ok

He had some absolute purple patches but on his whole career - I probably wouldn't be selecting him until late in the draft (certainly not ahead of the guys I listed above) - although I suppose if you were able to address his concussions, etc - then he may have ended up a different player given how much potential he showed.

On actual output though, he was never AA, never had a 50 goal season and only kicked a total of 247 career goals.

Aside from the 7 guys I listed as preferable (who were all AA and on track for 450-500+ career goals), there are a bunch of next tier KPF's I would probably choose ahead of Kosi. Drew Petrie, for example kicked 444 goals, was AA and spent a chunk of his career as a 2nd ruck. If injury prone is no concern, then even Jarra Waite kicked 377 goals despite spending big chunks at CHB. Jesse Hogan will probably be AA this year and already has 70+ more career goals than Kosi in fewer games. Charlie Dixon is probably a better target man and will have kicked 350+ career goals too. Even a mid size option for full forward might be better, like Darling (AA, 500+ career goals) listed above or even Jack Gunston (450 career goals, 5-6 x AA squad and a big finals performer). Don't laugh but even someone like Ben Brown has 3 x 60+ goal seasons and 330+ in total (and counting)

Hell, even some Port old boys besides Dixon might be preferable. Jay Shulz had 4 very good seasons at Port, including a 66 goal season (and a low of 42 goals) for a career total of 333 (80+ more than Kozi in fewer games). Even Justin Westhoff kicked 300+ goals but was the ultimate swing man, spending large chunks of his career at CHB, in the ruck, on the wing, etc.

But if we are getting down this low in the pecking order, I'm probably taking a gamble on a younger prospect like Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Aaron Naughton, one of the King boys or even Oscar Allen.

In short, I think I'd be picking Kozi right down the list (120+) or not at all.

Crack the whip you lot! Ardent wants his go again.

When Ardent starts talking about himself in the 3rd person, you know something is about to break 😘

Hey, you realise you're up?

oh, no, i didn't!

okay, um... port are in desperate need of a powerhouse forward to replace dixon, and for that i think it's hard to look past two-time premiership forward tom lynch

he's not the sort of forward who commands the f50 like hawkins, but i think with his ability to straighten the side up, and allow marshall and georgiades to get the 'next best' defender, he's the pea for the pear in the goalsquare

Pick 34 goes to a ruckman.

At the end of 2013, it was a rather shrewd move trading this guy from the Saints to the Hawks and, by god it paid off handsomely.

Here's a guy I'd take over Draper, Bryan, Wright and Goldy.

My pick to be Essendon's No. 1 ruckman, PICK 34: Ben McEvoy.

Whoever's gonna pick for Carlton for the remainder of the of the draft, your turn.

Solid pick. Many Hawks from that team were valuable contributors and quite a few of them underrated.

Still, I'd have gone for Petrie as a potent forward who could also ruck, to join Draper.

We have other people who were on standby who deserve first dibs on the open spot at Carlton (should we tag them?), failing that I am happy to take over Carlton.
