You only mentioned the direction.

So if the degree is beyond acceptable (hard to do with the abhorrent change to allow Murali to chuck) then his action is illegal?

Contrary to what you have been saying all along?
Nope.

From the laws of cricket:
A ball is fairly delivered in respect of the arm if, once the bowler’s arm has reached the level of the shoulder in the delivery swing, the elbow joint is not straightened partially or completely from that instant until the ball has left the hand. This definition shall not debar a bowler from flexing or rotating the wrist in the delivery swing.
He doesn't straighten his arm in his bowling action; therefore, not a throw.

Hayden actually providing some analysis talking about the openers being squared up.

THE BIG DOS would have CHARGED these blokes down the wicket.

The Big Dos wasn't facing the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj though, he was facing the likes of Javagal Srinath and Ajit Agarkar.

The more I see him, the more I'm convinced he's not a test opener.

He could still be a test cricketer though. We need to get him down to 4 or 5 before we ruin him playing him out of position. It's a very defined technique that you need to open the batting at international level, and it's not the technique that McSweeney has.

Which isn't a criticism of McSweeney. It's more a criticism of the selectors for doggedly picking him out of position. I still think if you're picking 6 batsmen and just finding your best 2 openers, Head has a technique that is far more conducive to opening the batting.
There is nothing wrong with McSweeney's technique. He just might not be good enough.
