He said it was a two horse race between Sheezel and Owens.
Owens is very good and could easily become elite, but Sheezel has presently got him on raw numbers and, arguably, influence.

I had the misfortune of listening to a few minutes of Dwayne Russell yesterday arvo in between work calls etc.

All I heard was “Ok so call in and cast your vote. Who’s leading the Rising Star race at this stage, Mitch Owens or Will Ashcroft, given that it’s a race in two?”

’Toes, was it Sheezel and Owens or Ashcroft and Owens?

Owens was impressive, tackles very well for a guy his size.

Can completely understand why the Saints fans love him.

Saints have the best academy zone, essentially get players from one of the best under 18 teams in the league who have multicultural backgrounds

But back to Sheezel he has the afl rising star and our bnf by a fair margin at the moment

According to the tool Russell he had it as Owens and Ashcroft, adding a “pffffft it’s far easier to rack up numbers off half back” (to support him leaving The Sheez out of it), forgetting Daicos’ exploits from the same debut season only a year ago. An absolute plonker is Drain Russells.

Done by the Sunday morning crew.

Done by Dwayne’s one man’s opinion show (and what I was referring to).

I like Owens but to go out of your way to justify leaving Sheez out of the group you consider to be in the running this season, based on performances hither to, is just plain stubborn ignorance.

The other two are having line-n-length RS seasons that you see every year from gun young players in top teams, Shezzus is doing things that have never been done in the history of the game in the 3rd worst side in the league.

Derrrrwayne must be on the nose beers..

The kid is racking up numbers and impacting games that would have him in conversations for an AA jumper. For that plonker to say he isn’t in the conversation on that fact alone, is ridiculous.

No one would have Ashcroft or Owens in conversations for an AA spot.

It’s typical media messaging, say it often enough to get the public on board, so it’s not a shock when they hand Ashcroft the award they have already engraved for him.

I noticed him pushing up the ground and following the ball a bit more this week. He seemed to be sitting at the back of packs much further up the ground. I don’t know if he’d have been in position for that first goal assist to Larkey in previous weeks for example.

I don’t think he got a lot of touches doing this, but you have to back him in to figure it out very quickly.

It must be so tempting for Clarkson to see what Daicos is doing and try to turn Sheezel into our own version of that.

Just want Harry Sheezel to be "the one" who takes that early promise for us and finally goes on to be a premiership winning North Melbourne champion.

Every since Corey McKernan I've become quite used to being royally screwed for subjective AFL awards so that matters little.

Don’t worry Clarko knows exactly what he has at his disposal here and is licking his lips.

I think this year is all about getting games into him and settling him into an AFL system. This kid has the tools to be a midfielder when he matures. In fact he will be able to play any position (except a key position) at an elite level. Kid just knows how to football.

Oh he will be, I’ve never been more sure of it. When was the last time we had a player come in and play the way he has from day one?
This is the kid who will finally set the standard and bring his mates along with him.

How the hell does derwayne not have Sheezel at no.1 let alone out of the "2 horse race" for rising star? Actually putrid.
The same plonkers that aren’t rating him are the same sycophants who cream their pants over Daicos. Yes Daicos is a brilliant player but what Harry has is also the ability to win his own ball.

Daicos is pretty bloody good at winning his own ball.

I think there will be a core of these young players that step up and drive this club forward.

It only takes one or two absolute guns and those around them look better.

I still think we need to sort out the key positions. But can you imagine Sheezel, Wardlaw and LDU all hitting their prime, that’s when it starts getting fun again.

Like has been said, one of the worst teams in the comps and he's is shattering records. I think most punters, even those that are fans of the other likely podium placers, can stomach him winning lol. IMO the lack of attention from some segments of the media is just because we're not sexy enough as a club right now.

It aint just dwaynes narrative. At best he is considered no.2 in the running, and it shits me. He could win the club B&F but not the rising star.
I can see him coming 3rd behind Owens & Ashcroft. Not enough goal assists.

I know you are being facetious with the goal assists comments but Sheezal averages more score involvements from the backline than Ashcroft and only 0.9 less score involvements than forward Owens.
