I hope they are too. I have no idea what could be wrong for them both to need to be in the hospital at the same time. I would not have begrudged Hickey at all for missing yesterdays game.

i wonder if this was the reason Sinclair was playing first ruck in the VFL last week, in order to protect Ladhams in case Hickey couldn’t play. Which makes what Ladhams did doubly idiotic

Really was. I had of course heard of him prior to coming to the Swans and was aware of him but truth be told I had not paid much attention to him for his entire career until joining the Swans. He managed to find his career best form last year, which is pretty amazing given his age, and he is such a likeable guy as well.

hickey more than just fits into the swans' culture, he has established his own part of it, he's become one of our "spiritual" leaders ... i'm always a bit wary of that term but it's appropriate in his case

Maybe playing with injuries for too long has caught up with him. His strengths were around the ground and making a honest contest in the ruck. He is a b grade ruckman at best and now he can't play out the game and fades badly. If he gets another year to play VFL and become a mentor to the young players I wouldn't begrudge him for it.
McAndrew is not going to be a downgrade on Hickey as it currently stands and he has a lot more upside.

I keep hoping his form is going to turn around but he's been a shadow of his former self this year.
He was a huge part of our turn around in form and it's no surprise that our return to the bottom of the ladder has coincided with his decline. Hopefully ladhams is healthy, sensible, and good enough to be a big part of next year.

Longmire basically pulled him in the final quarter and played McLean in the ruck. It’s unfortunate but Hickey looks pretty much done. Might get one last year as an insurance option who plays largely in reserves, but the two years we got out of him were great.
