[Player Profile TBA]

Tom Hickey
DOB:06 March 1991
DEBUT: 2011
DRAFT: #Undefined, 2010 Zone
RECRUITED FROM: Morningside (Qld)/Gold Coast/St Kilda

His body is toast. It is awful to see him struggling and still trying his best.

I heard him interviewed recently and he is clever, thoughtful and empathic. Among other things he mentioned how shocked he was with rental costs. He and partner spend a grand a week renting a two bedroom townhouse for them and their young kids.

It struck me that he would be a good ruck coach for us esp if Cox is lured back to Perth.

Iam not sure he could even play VFL next year but would love to see Tom employed in a coaching capacity with us.

I'd be surprised if Hickey went on next year. He is getting beaten too easily now.

It was good that he was able to reinvigorate his career at the Swans after all looked lost prior to that in his footy career.

They gave Sinclair a final year in 2022 when his body was basically shot and I reckon Hickey will get one unless he's desperate to retire. He's a good citizen and clubman type like Sinclair, experienced veteran who can be called upon in emergencies and be trusted to teach young guys in the 2's. Makes sense to me to give him one more. He has shown this year at times that he still has the smarts to play seniors but his body isn't there consistently.

I reckon it is better to pay him from the toppies list plus an allowance for ruck coaching and co coaching of the 2s.

He has busted himself playing for us. Would love to see the Club investing in him.

Thats the biggest problem the club faces in the next 5 years unless things drastically change in Sydney.

Wont effect the top end earners 600k+ but what about the low end and middle range earner.
