Player Watch #46: Ben Miller - Re-Signed Until 2026

Stop beating around the bush.

TT has a point though, we have not produced a key forward since Jack was a lad, so it is easy to be sceptical.
It's a bit hard considering he gets to play multiple roles and dropped every second week when he's actually been constructive . Jack played four terrible games in succession and still played. KMAC , Grimes and JGTI have been terrible for most of the year and were still being played.

Uncharacteristically shithouse post from you TT.
You'll see, once he's delisted when his contract is up. Plodder.
Well not really. We all hoped he would come on as a forward ruck, but in reality it was the first time he had played that role since he arrived at Richmond, and last year he was trying to fit in with Lynch and Jack, so not much opportunity there.

Lynch going down has given him real opportunity, and he has only half grabbed it as you say. Maybe we were all expecting too much. His ruck work has certainly improved. His forward craft has been much slower, but the last few games, and his last few in the VFL have shown that the penny is starting to drop.

He may well go as you say, missing like Chol did, but he might also be starting to understand how to play forward (in one of the most difficult positions on the ground CHF), but more importantly he might be starting to feel confident in that role.
He's had 6 years to lock down a spot. Doesn't dominate VFL. He's a KPD or nothing @ AFL level IMO.

Jacks terrible game is better than Millers average game. Plus he has a few credits in the bank compared to a bloke that averages 3 games a season.

He's had 6 months as a forward ruck and was going pretty well down back also before that. I reckon it's 50-50 at the moment, but it's more than just 6 years to lock down a spot, there are factors involved.

Miller is improving game by game, keep playing him, he seems to have some good moves, and a footy brain, unlike some who just want to stand there and hold their hands up trying to take a mark in a pack, I say give him time and we may be rewarded.
The problem is, that's not true :(

Pretty well you reckon? He has played 1 good game there ever.

The knocks on him now are the same as 6 years ago. Doesn't physically impose himself, doesn't find the ball enough and isn't consistent with effort and performance. Played well last week though, I'll give him credit for that. Hopefully he can continue on.

Here's the thing about Benjamin Miiler . He was drafted as a Ruckman and barely played in the position in the VFL as he was either needed down back to do his standard BL apprenticeship which is almost becoming mandatory at the RFC or bc we had a vacancy in that area. He then has an appendectomy that goes awry and he pretty well loses a season. He then has a tremendous end to the 22 season playing in the BL showing that he can play at the level.
Suddenly 23 comes along and Loo wields his machete;) and rucks, forwards and basically anyone over 190cm is injured:cool:. So this puts the terribly inexperienced and physically under developed Ryan into the Ruck / Forward position with a physically matured , agile and versatile Miller. However Miller is asked to play a role he's never played before and to both men's credit they have over performed beyond expectations in them. We should be applauding their commitment and achievements rather than looking for faults as especially Miller who's had almost nearly had to start again. Posters suggesting it better not be a one off and we need to see more etc or much the same thing and he'll eventually be delisted are way off the mark. You can't have that much versatility, strength and athleticism without having natural football ability. To compare him to Chol is hilarious as Chol is sadly an athlete and not a natural footballer. Miller will never be off our list unless a club comes after him with a lucrative offer, but fortunately with our older KPP retiring he will be around to stay a lot longer and hopefully for his entire career.

He was tracking pretty well as a KPD but because we lost Chol and CCJ, we had to develop him in other roles. Now he can do it all. Still think the Tarrant recruitment was silly and Miller should’ve been groomed to take over Astbury

Yeah in hindsite. Tarrant played some bloody good footy last year though and we were a bs goal review from going deep in finals.

Don't forget to switch back to your main account TigerImposter once youve finished disliking any post criticising Miller.
Well you could also do the same bc your previous post was pretty well a reflection of your immaturity in this thread.
I didn’t criticise anyone, but just stated facts where they were going the early crow on him.

Just a bit of banter son don't stress. It was so long and boring I didn't read it all. Same dribble and excuses over and over.

The early crow 6 years in? :straining:

Seems like Tiger Imposter has struggled since he dropped the Terry Wallace avatar. The match committee has lost patience in him and he will get dropped. I think we trade him at the end of the year for a free agent big footy poster looking to leave his current team’s board.

We haven't produced a decent ruck in even longer.
Back to the Mark Lee days (unless you include Adam Pattison, who I liked).
Ottens, but then he left. Better forward than ruck with us.

As the saying goes, take it one week at a time. He was stiff to get dropped vs Port, as he was okay and started to show some signs. Spent two weeks down below before being promoted after playing very well.

Maybe the match committee finally worked out that better Miller at CHF than nobody. Jack has played a few decent game at CHF in the last few years, but getting fewer and fewer.

Millers main problem is not being aggressive enough, and that as a CHF, of which he has played all of 3 odd games there, you need to be. He is not a good mark yet either, but he doesn't have to be, just get to the contest, which he started to do in the VFL then last week up top.

But he has so many other attributes that could make him a player. Very quick on his feet, has a great kick (it is only a matter of time before the monkey on his shoulder when kicking for goals started to wane), and he is very quick. That lead up the ground when he had his third shot at goal just goes to show how difficult he could be if he got going. His backman was right up his clacker but couldn't close him down. Jack cannot get that separation anymore, nor the leap to protect the ball.

Posters have every right to be sceptical, but likewise posters have every right to be hopeful. I'm fence sitting at the moment, hopeful that his last game was not a fluke. He might still be a bit flakey, but he doesn't have to be good every week, just needs to do it more often and let it build. Time will tell. Glad he is contracted for next year, because Lynch will back taking Jack's spot which will make us a much better side, with respect.

One thing I like about miller over other second ruckman is because he has played a lot in the backline he doesn't shit himself when the oppo ruck goes down there like other second ruck.

On thing as well he can do is half the contest on the wing. Ryan the last few weeks was starting to get out marked on the wing which is the sure-fire way of killing our game plan.

We all thought that last year. He's a tease, same as Chol was. He'll go missing in his next game or two, get dropped, play a couple of good games in the reserves, come back up, rinse and repeat until he's delisted.
That may well happen, after all he is still developing his game as a 2nd ruck/forward. If Ryan is out with his ankle injury, then there is a possibility that he'll actually have more opportunity to step up and have more of an impact and that consistent run of games may just be what he needs to continue to build belief.

Hope so.

Be nice if we were given a ****ing injury update

Ryan or no Ryan, we need a CHF. Jack, Ryan and Miller is the best combination at the moment, because Miller can hit up the ground, the other two can't.

Agree with that.

I think having Ryan miss will mean Miller will get more footy directed through him as he is likely to spend more time on the ground and get up near 85% rather than the 75% he averages when we're using the 3 talls with Jack & Samson
