Gavaskar needs to retire u need to be unbiased in the commentary box. I would wonder if Tony Greig was alive him and Gavaskar would be arguing for 10 mins that it was the correct decision
Mate, Gavaskar has been like that for well over 40 years.

Got a chip on his shoulder the size of the Himalayas.

He said both Kontas and Kholi should get a fine and Tim Lane questioned "both" but when only Kholi correctly end up getting the fine and 1 demerit point, he stated he got off lightly lol.

Sharma conceded Jaiswal hit the ball, before criticising the umpire’s use of technology in a bizarre rant about India’s lack of fortune with the DRS.
“Really I don’t know what to make of that because the technology didn’t show anything,” Sharma said.
“With the naked eye it did seem that he did touch something, so I don’t know how the umpires want to use the technology.
“But in all fairness I think he did touch the ball, but again look it is about the technology, which we all know is not 100 per cent. We don’t want to look really too much into that.
“But again it is just that we are more often than not we are the ones falling on the wrong side of it.
“It has been happening since India, so that’s where I feel we have been a little unfortunate.”

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla was fuming with the call and took to X to say that Jaiswal was clearly not out.
“Yashasavi Jaiswal was clearly not out,” Shukla said.
“Third umpire should have taken note of what technology was suggesting. While over ruling field umpire, third umpire should have solid reasons.”
Geez the embarrassment.

Hey I know nobody likes losing and the game is like a religion over there but try and show a little dignity.

There is one thing that I haven’t seen mentioned is what happened to the ball after it past the batter. Bouncers don’t drop as quick as that when there is no deflection. Carey was lucky that it carried to him.

Geez the embarrassment.

The ICC actually need to grow a pair of stones and call out the BCCI comments

That’s all largely true in terms of fan discussions on forums etc but it ignores the one-sided discourse by commentators, scribes, broadcasters and all other types of content creators/grifters who all financial interests in pandering to the largest audience…and in this case that audience is obviously overwhelmingly Indian

Look at the feeble lack of outcry from Australia’s administration and commentariat over the on-and-off field racial abuse of Australia’s only coloured player for nearly a hundred years…then compare it the hysterical, parochial, hyper-partisan responses from India’s corresponding behemoths over the smallest perceived sleight and can you credibly tell me that they’re comparable?

They’re not…they’re orders of magnitude apart so while your point is correct, it’s also largely redundant in the bigger context 👍

Not really sure what the actual Symonds incident has to do with the other issue - the way he was treated was disgraceful I’ve never argued otherwise.

I don’t think racism on field is ever handled well by those who administer the games we follow and as a consequence I think the reactions to it are exponentially worse.

campaigners whinge about not trusting technology then are livid when the technology didnt show a snick like its foolproof and our eyes witnessing a clear edge are wrong. ****n units

Great stuff from this Shukla clown. They did use the technology (which includes raw footage) and did have solid reasons. And there was technology not used (ball tracker) which provided more proof.

Wonder what his thoughts are on Jaiswal being saved from being given out LBW, despite the technology showing the ball smashing into leg stump.

Lol, you misunderstood my post…it wasn’t about you or the racism example

It was about the fact that while it’s true that fan bases are equally irrational, hysterical and parochial, the discourse across the respective commentariats on issues like these is overwhelmingly one-sided due to the financial factors at play

Do you follow me?

I would like to see some past india cricketers call it out ...instead of sunni whingeing all the time

reckon there is some issues going on with indian cricket atm..older players the establishment etc
The dignified ones are probably to scared to speak up or they'll get the "get into his wifes pants" treatment from the gurus on social media

Yeah fair enough - but I think that was an issue that was handled very differently to how this one would be.

I think Australia quietly let that one go away even more than normal and let Symonds down because of the ultra sensitive nature of the issue.

The BCCI and the IPL as we know loom large over indian cricket and world cricket in general....and there influence is massive both positively and negative

Indian cricket while strong is in a period of transition. They have an ageing team ....Ashwin already retired midway through a series...Sharma/Kohli/jadeja getting on they have some interesting decisions to make in the near future

They have found a player in Reddy but I was concerned with india A's batting in the tour games ..going to be interesting to see how they rejuvenate the side

Definitely!

Only two players ever have made 900 runs and taken 30 wickets in a Shield season.................

Sir Garfield Sobers when he played for South Australia, and Beau Webster.
And in Sobers' case, they only played 8 games back then.
