The right decision was made so any debate should end there. What shits me is when this happens both sides jump up and down like they’re the only teams that have ever been on the end of them. During the monkeygate test Rahul Dravid was given caught behind to a ball that missed his bat by so far even Marnus wouldn’t have appealed. Some of the leg before decisions India got in 2001 were pitching so far outside leg they wouldn’t have hit a second set of stumps. That’s just from games involving Australia. There’s countless others from all teams; every set of fans thinks ‘they’ are being picked on.

Ineptitude doesn’t discriminate especially since hometown umpiring was removed from the equation (the last example notwithstanding)

Indeed, if the umpire believes he has enough visual evidence he’s within his rights anyway as I said earlier in the thread so there doesn’t need to be any debate had but if there was it wouldn’t matter. The right decision was reached

The optical illusion argument is one of the most laughable things I’ve ever heard.

Umpire has seen a deflection (and a change in rotation of the ball as well) from multiple angles.

He then goes to snicko (a technology that even the creators themselves have said is flawed), and it shows nothing. Which conclusion makes more sense:

A) the flawed technology has failed to pick up what he can clearly see. There are clear explanations for this (glove makes less noise, contact occurs far away from the mic)

B) there has been an unexplainable optical illusion and the flawed technology is correct?

As Simon Taufel explained, there was actually no need to even go to snicko. We see it all the time with LBWs where there is a clear edge on replay, they just say not out and continue on.

The third umpire probably didn't help by unnecessarily playing the snicko footage but that's a common enough scene in DRS.

I think Sunny is right, it's likely to be a localized rainbow in the middle of the mcg, where when sunlight passes through water droplets in the atmosphere, causing the light to bend and separate into colors which makes it look like an edge. We just need a scientitian to confirm this phenomenon

That’s all largely true in terms of fan discussions on forums etc but it ignores the one-sided discourse by commentators, scribes, broadcasters and all other types of content creators/grifters who all financial interests in pandering to the largest audience…and in this case that audience is obviously overwhelmingly Indian

Look at the feeble lack of outcry from Australia’s administration and commentariat over the on-and-off field racial abuse of Australia’s only coloured player for nearly a hundred years…then compare it the hysterical, parochial, hyper-partisan responses from India’s corresponding behemoths over the smallest perceived sleight and can you credibly tell me that they’re comparable?

They’re not…they’re orders of magnitude apart so while your point is correct, it’s also largely redundant in the bigger context
