Not losing at home means sweet FA if you get tonked away four times out of the last five. Here's a stat for you - they won't have won a home Ashes for 12 years by the time the teams next meet in England. You can come up with all kinds of stats to comfort yourself, we all do it, but this is a series to win the Ashes. Australia have retained them, per the rules.

The original point was that England look overly giddy for a team that has already failed in its objective. I happened to agree. You, a West Indies fan, come in here to antagonise our fans. The "well they live rent-free in yours" is not much of a comeback. But seeing as we're playing that game, I'll play too - the Australian team undoubtedly lives rent-free in yours. Make sure you set the record button in case you drift off when Pat gets the urn later.

No mate, I’d say the fact that someone can offer a neutral opinion and not buy into nationalistic bullshit that permeates everything you’re saying is messing with you.

If they lived ‘rent free’ in my head I would find reasons to deny that they’re the world’s best side. I don’t. Because they are.
I’d find reasons to attribute some of their failings this series to them ‘just not being that good.’ I haven’t. They are a good side stacked with good players and frankly some of the crying in these game threads about how so-and-so is a spud or has to be dropped or whatever is absolutely staggering.


I’ve coped perfectly fine with Australia winning. They’re the world champions, they have a great attack, they have a side with very few weaknesses and they deserved to win the first two tests.

Why in earth that should mean England don’t have the right to be determined to preserve a reasonable record of home defiance, I have no idea.
