It looked like his hand was going up to smother the ball, I would assume he is making a legit attempt to get his hands on the pill.He did launch himself forward off the ground and cannoned into Docherty. You can't do that
You're right, an umpire assisted win over a mediocre side like Fremantle is nothing to be proud about. Not sure I'm a fan of getting handed a win by the umps.
Commentators all agree - free-kick wasn't there.
Just embarrassing.
Ok so Izzy was robbed from a second shot in my postRegarding down field free kicks...
"The free kick is awarded at the spot where the kick or handpass lands or is first possessed, to the nearest player to the spot (unless the disposal is backwards, or the ball lands out of bounds or through for a behind, in which case the free kick is awarded to the infringed player at the spot of the infringement"
Uh oh.
Umpire on that end had a shocker. Needs to be some accountability
Lol.Not sure I'm a fan of getting handed a win by the umps. Could never be an eagles fan
The rules state the free kick can’t be downfield if the ball goes out of bounds. It wasn’t just a bad decision, it was completely against the rules.
What a delusional analysis that is.Well if you take out the two shockers in the first quarter paid to Freo directly in front of goal, then the one Newnes kicks after the siren... we still win. Take the good with the bad with umpires Blues supporters have been told
Oh my god.
So (1) not there, (2) awarded to the wrong player and (3) awarded in the wrong place.
Honestly, if ever a club had a basis to appeal a result, this is it.
I'm not sure. Usually, the umps at least try to seem impartial. Ump was clearly looking to find a free - when there wasn't one, he made one up.
Pretty bad look for a professional sport to be honest.
Classy post from a middling side supporter lol
So every onfield umpire did not know this rule or chose to ignore it?Regarding down field free kicks...
"The free kick is awarded at the spot where the kick or handpass lands or is first possessed, to the nearest player to the spot (unless the disposal is backwards, or the ball lands out of bounds or through for a behind, in which case the free kick is awarded to the infringed player at the spot of the infringement"
Uh oh.
Is that right? I assumed it would be paid down the ground.Regarding down field free kicks...

Uh oh.
That’s disgusting umpiring
It needs to be completely overhauled. At the very least, there needs to be consistency. There is absolutely ZERO consistency in the umpiring in our game, week to week, even seperate games that are back to back can be officiated differently.I agree, and don't even care that my team lost. I've been denying and repressing the fact that this game simply is not adjudicated correctly on so many levels for far too long. There is just far too greater scope for differing evaluations and interpretations, coupled with rules that were farcically constructed to begin with. I don't even blame the umpires, but more direct my contempt towards the travesty that is the AFL as a corporate body.
Umpiring didn't cost you Port....Vengeance for port, suck it freo
