No, not ridiculous. Go through my original comments and you’ll find I’ve said ‘more to play for’ not ‘nothing to play for’ like you cherry picked.

Please quote me where I have said Carlton have NOTHING to play for. Until you can do that you’re simply putting words in my mouth.

Yep, my mistake in that last post.

But as you know, I took issue with the original post, that being that Melbourne has more to play for.

Despite the error, it remains ridiculous.

Take issue with whatever you like. My opinion is I simply feel given what is on the line re 4 finals losses in consecutive years we will absolutely hurl our lot in and hopefully leave no stone unturned to win at least 1 final in two years.

Irrespective, Melbourne has underachieved since 2021 and our head coach is very stubborn. I’d point out that losing two important forwards to season ending injuries hasn’t helped.

like every opposition the dees come up against, if we kick straight we'll win. And hopefully those flaming up don't get sucked into the crowd and spoil another game.

Not every opposition. Kicking straight won’t be enough to beat the Lions still. It will be an interesting game this week.

If Melbourne and Port win (as I expect they will), we will get Round 2 replays with similar / same results.

Melbourne will win this. Overall a better side even with a questionable forward line and we have a lot more to play for.

A lot more to play for hey?

I'm not too sure there. I mean think about the opponent for a second:

  • Long starved of finals experience with still a 23-year drought (Preliminary Final), 24-year drought (Grand Final) and 28-year drought (Premiership) still hanging over their heads. Especially coming from 5 bottom place finishes, their worst recorded season (2018) and biggest choke of a season that was last year.
  • The fans who have been anxiously waiting years on end for something to happen. The club too hoping to create and maintain a new generation of blues faithful with a strong inviting culture, a sustainable footy brand and consistent success.
  • Several players like Charlie Curnow, Caleb Marchbank and David Cuningham whom many thought would have had to give footy up due to their failing bodies.
  • Sam Docherty who has been through arguably the worst hurdles imaginable including 2 knee reconstructions and several bouts of chemo.
  • Patrick Cripps, the skipper who was long seen carrying the club alone on his shoulders through nothing but dark times and false dawns. Outsiders only ever questioning the state of his body because of this.
  • Michael Voss whose credentials have forever been questioned. Especially after his time coaching Brisbane where he had very little to work with.
  • Harry McKay, Jack Martin and Jack Silvagni. All who have been promised a spot moving forward in this finals campaign whilst dealing with their unfortunate absence.
  • Ed Curnow. Retiring veteran who before last week was the last remaining player with finals experience at the club. Who had to forge a footy career through rookie drafts with his limited abilities, only to ever see failure. The team would like to send him off on the highest of highs.

The list goes on.

The fact remains both teams have heaps to play for. It is a semi-final.
But even if this was a relevant topic of discussion, I think Carlton regardless of whether or not they have met expectations this year, would probably edge a team who only achieved ultimate glory 2 seasons ago. Outside of Brayshaw and Hibberd (and maybe that unwanted record you bring up), there really isn't a lot going on.

That being said, I still have my doubts on Carlton. The pessimist in me doesn't see my boys getting past the dees.

Should be a great evening for footy. I feel that the Dees just aren’t as hungry as Carlton having tasted recent success. Blues when they are playing well are hard to beat. The issue is which Carlton turns up; underdog Carlton normally play well.

The Blues by 5pts.

I think it's a bit harsh. We lost to the flag favourites by 7 points and we played like garbage and couldn't hit the backside of a barn. If Brayshaw didn't get injured and we kicked poorly instead of diabolically poor, we win that game and are flag favourites.

Nope. Based on the last game, it was always going to be a close game. I wouldn’t have you guys as flag favourites even with a win.
