Should be a great contest, as the last game between these two sides was not too long ago.

Melbourne go in as favorites and deservedly so, but we're well and truly in this.

McKay a big out, gee there are some absolute nuffies in here who undervalue what he does. Yes he missed a few sitters but he was very good prior and there's absolutely no doubt we're better for him being out there.

Martin also a big out, very important player for us and a key to our turnaround over the second half of the season.

JVR and Brayshaw both significant outs for Melbourne. Really interested to see how they structure up forward of the ball in particular.
Have a sick feeling in my stomach that this week might just be the one that their dysfunctional forward line plays out of its skin.

Well and truly a 50/50 game.

I don't get this argument that the Blues are better off without McKay. Sure he's a disastrous kick at goal but he's still a huge bloke who can and does clunk marks, they come in handy in September. Curnow will really have his work cut out against May and Lever without McKay there.
It was pushed hard as a meme by Lyon on Fox and taken up by media nuffies including Jabba the Hutch that thought Carlton should trade Harry to Melbourne - very funny - it is like saying umm Collingwood would be better off without Naicos because they have another one on a wing doing similar stuff like umm..running and kicking and stuff like that and two first rounders would get two really good players like maybe another player who in 5 years time would be as good if you are lucky..

"Jabba the Hutch" 😂

Well I am told this is the 'main board' where serious discussion goes on by 'serious' people talking 'seriously'...so apologies if that was a bit too funny for the 'main board'..

I get that we have a very limited forward line at the moment but I feel like our inability to score is largely to do with our mids blindly bombing the ball inside the forward 50. If we understood the concept of lowering your eyes we wouldn't have to worry about another straight sets exit.
Not entirely correct. In the case of Oliver, he needs to look up. He only watches the ball onto his boot.
Laurie and Spargo look where they are kicking the ball. Their problem (at the moment) is getting their hands on the ball (and they aren't midfield anyway).

I really don't get the criticism of Oliver by so many Melbourne posters- he is most often kicking under pressure and his kicks are penetrating and to contests more often than not - unwarranted criticism of a great player in my books.

It's not criticism so much as an area of his game that he needs to improve.

A player on a fast break from the centre; who do you want to have the ball?

(I would pick Hunter)

Ive seen Oliver make fantastic kicks from many positions on field -but typically he isn't receiving out the front as he is too busy digging the hard ball out. Pretty much any player looks fantastic running in clear space with 4 meters start out front from center circle- and can make a flat pass to a leading forward - that is the easiest play for any AFl mid.

Injuries to all of the same-type players has really crippled any legitimate chance we have this season imo, we may just pip this game but will get found out against the lions. Same goes for Carlton I reckon, especially up there with the singalong nonsense.

So really idk, tipping bloose by 3goals. If they're honestly on the up-and-up, they should win this

What Brisbane have to contend with whether it is Carlton or Melbourne is a team that doesn't mind tackling for 4 quarters I wouldn't be writing off Melbourne or Carlton's chances so quickly - the teams that play finals football are the best contested teams- not the fantasy pantsers.

Every chance Kozi goes berserk. Loves giving us issues.
I agree and i am not confident at all. Martin and Harry outs are huge.

Kosi and Fritsch can tear us new ones and we will need to be better than what we were against the Swans. Demons have match winners on every line and the best ruck the comp has seen for over a decade.

I will be very surprised if we win as much as i want it.

If TMac is out there and plays like he did vs the Pies I'd pencil this in for a Blues win. Have always liked him as a player over the years but my god he looked beyond cooked on Thursday, Weitering will eat him alive in current form.

Couldn't agree more mate, got to the point where Id much rather Josh Schache. How ****ing sad.

Demons to win this for me.
Carlton are teetering and getting away with it.
Sydney just needed a bit of luck converting and they would have got up by 3 goals.
Mckay missing will help, he is seriously overrated, I’m actually upset he got knocked out as it makes the blues a more balanced team.
TDK is way more valuable up front.
Martin is a loss, played well.
Melbourne needs Fritz and Kosi to kick a couple and the demons defence will ensure Carlton won’t kick enough.
And Brisbane will just relax and hope its carnage!
Carlton gave Sydney 4 goals from kick ins and 1 that should of been walked over. Blues also had Harry miss two goals from inside the square. A six goal turnaround from ‘finals’ mistakes. Melbourne won’t get them because Carlton will be better it and Melbourne aren’t as high a pressure team.

Staggering the lack of love for the demons. Quality outfit, seasoned finals team. May and Lever could have a picnic double teaming Charlie. Beat Collingwood everywhere except the scoreboard. Expect them to bounce back hard.
