There's not a defender in the comp I reckon who can do well on decent forwards when the weight of ball is coming in and you're not winning with team defence. The rules swing forwards way so much one-on-one I think it encourages the defensive teamstyles we see. And then only Rance seems to be harshly marked for having these nights - had more than usual this year but his standing in the game particularly from 2014-2017 surely means we can stop with the overrated talk!

No other defender can do what he does. Richmond press high, it makes them susceptible to quick transitions out the back.

Rance gets to more contests than any other defender and his spoiling work is exceptional. He's a contested possession player and tends to keep a cool head under pressure.

He allows Richmond to play the style they do and not concede heavily from transition.

People just hate him because he gets a lot of media love. Like Nice Nat and Rioli. That doesn't change how good he is.
