Really looking forward to this test, your mob have well and truly put us in our place for years, hopin to see some real improvement.

Adams as you know is gone for the season, Wells will also miss which is a big loss for us as it exposes Harvey to a tag. I think Grima is touch and go but he is our ideal CHB so I think they'll do what they can to get him up.

Any thoughts on match ups for Petrie, R.Tarrant & Hansen?

Edit: As I posted that Scott announced Grima and Wells would both miss.

I think Reid will go to Petrie, Brown to Tarrant, and maybe Maxwell to look after Hansen. Or maybe we bring Tarrant back to run with Hansen.

I'd say Reid will get Petrie as he dominated him this time last year (althought he was in better form..)
Hansen > Brown
Tarrant will be left to one of Maxwell, Toovey or Obrien. That is of course dependent on if Tarrant plays back or forward

I don't think either are ready for this week, but I would look at bringing one or both in for the WCE game. Start Benny on the ground, and sub him off half way through the third quarter for Krak.
What if we got an injury though? That would throw everything out and I wouldn't think we could plan for that.

Not wanting to jinx things but could there be a risk of a flat performance this week?

Our fellas got a lot of self belief out of last week's game but it was such a bruising & intense encounter. They were going hard and in the hurt-locker right up until the final siren...

Our conditioning staff would be working 24/7 to get the players fresh, and I'd be making sure that the team is switched on, and focused on the task at hand.

There's no easy games for Collingwood I guess, but this week will be a test of the team's ability to recover and back-up after a finals intensity slashfest.
Yeah I'm a little worried about this too, but North had one as well against Essendon and have one less day break than us. We should be fine in comparison.

So therefore I assume you would make the 'actual' Dane Swan come back through the reserves, and only if he puts in a very strong performance in the twos?
Yep, I would actually, more so as a form of punishment for letting the club down than anything else, and he too would have to perform or be left in the VFL for the eagles game.

Ask yourself this, would you want Dane Swan to play against the Eagles if he goes about it half arsed this week in the VFL and gets 15 possessions or so? I'd answer no, I want to see Swan come out and perform at VFL level this week, it would serve as a great boost not only to our chances against the Eagles as Swan would have had one run under his belt instead of three weeks off, but it also gives the kids a chance to see Swanny up close and personal in a VFL game, it would be invaluable for the likes of Josh Thomas.

So yes, anyone who plays in the VFL has to earn a spot, even if their name is Dane Swan.

After giving Kreuzer a bath a month ago Goldy has been a bit out of form in the ruck, so I wouldn't necessarily suggest that resting Jolly would be too damaging. We need big Todd to fire as that is the only favourable matchup we have in the midfield.

Highly likely we will go in unchanged but it would not shock me to see Benny J out there with the green vest on.....even if its a last minute change with a youngster making way, eg Elliott.

How many games has Johnson played at VFL?

Looking forward to the game this Saturday night. I can't make it this week unfortunately but should be able to find a screen to watch it *fingers crossed*

Is this not the Argentina style clash strip? I was actually a fan of that one TBH

I think itll be live on both 7 and Foxtel so thats a bonus.

The strip we played in against Gold Coast and Sydney is the one we will be wearing. With blue shorts i presume. Adrian Anderson has approved it so will be interesting to see if it contrasts well.

Imo that would that clash more, both jumpers would have white stripes with a dark background and shorts.

Just the one, last week.

Hed be at long odds to get a gig this week. Would Bucks pick him?

SS17, Adrian Anderson approved that jumper when we are the away team against you guys.
How on earth it doesnt clash less than our normal home jumper, I cant figure out.
The consensus on the North board at the time was that the reason this jumper was approved was because its the AFL and its Adrian Anderson.

Normally this year we've been resting players for longer periods of time to allow them to freshen up with the amount of injuries we had, although it was an exception last week when Didak returned to the side after just a week in the VFL. So it's 50/50 i guess. Johnson had 22 possessions and looked the best of the returners, while didak had 30 in his game.

Hes only played one game but fitness wont be an issue, as it was shoulder injury keeping him out.

The Colllingwood VFL side sucks big time. He would get more match fitness playing 40 minutes of AFL than hed gain playing 100 minutes in the VFL.

At the end of the day I would think he'll play another VFL game, but personally I think he needs to be in the seniors asap.

Here's a nice little jumper comparison;

If I have it right the one on the left is the one North intend to wear this week, while the one on the right is the one North wore last week.

Which North jumper would you choose? Seems obvious to me.

But which jumper will we wear?

I thought we had a clash strip for this very purpose?

You would assume Collingwood's mostly black jumper with black shorts with our mostly white jumper and white shorts would be the go but the AFL are morons.

I didn't mind our Argentina-like strip, the only problem being I don't remember us ever winning a game playing in it. :p

Nope, it's our home game, we do not wear clash jumpers for our home games, never will as long as Eddie is the president, so we will wear the predominately black jumper we have worn for all home games this year. Hence why North should just wear the same outfit they had last week against Essendon, which was predominately white, makes sense? Not to the AFL though.

Your clash strip was the suspender top. I think it was to be worn against us for home games.

Id prefer us to use the strips on Saturday night for all our remaining matches.

Collingwood home guernsey (mostly black), black shorts, black socks

North home guernsey (mostly white), white shorts, hooped socks.

Why the need for a clash when it works out fine? Oh thats right Anderson needs to justify his existence somehow.

edit: i do actually like the white on blue North guernsey with blue shorts, but it doesn't make sense to wear it against us.

If Dids spend only one week at VFL then who knows, even Krakeour and Macaffer could come into contention. Either way bringing in too many underdone players is not the way to go so will be interesting to see what you guys do.
Personally Johnson would be a big in as would Krakeour if he got picked. Weve struggled against mature bodies in the past, particular you guys- so that may effect selection.

Your right, the VFL doesnt offer much intensity as to senior level. He would only be an option as sub IMO. Only reason being our gameplan and the fast track at Etihad. Would take a while to get used to.

So, you're the one.

But seriously, nice to see more respect for us here than there is hope on our board. :thumbsu:

Edit: On the clash strip issue, I'm one who disagrees with the simplistic notion of light and dark being the only type of contrast. If it was, I'd agree with your home strip and our predominantly white strip. BUT, in this case our clash strip, I think, is more of a contrast as it reduces the amount of white meaning black and royal blue is the contrast which works equally well, if not better.

If North lose three and bring three in it's probably the ideal time to give a couple of underdone players a run. Even if North's players aren't coming back from injury they won't be 100% match fit I wouldn't think.

This could be said about upcoming games against West Coast and Essendon too as they will have players returning, although Essendon should get loads back this week so will have 2 games under their belt when we play them.

In theory our underdone players could be offset by those of the opposition.

Exactly. The AFL are mind boggling sometimes.

So Grima, Wells and Adams are out from last weeks side. They are all crucial to their structures.

Dawes should play well without Grima out as I expect Thompson to go to Cloke. Their kids (Harper, Bastinac etc.) will have to lift to cover the outside run of Wells. Adams is very hard to replace - Boomer will have to play another blinder to compensate.

I think Marty or Tooves will shadow Harvey all day - probably Toovey the more I think about it.

I honestly think if we can win the majority of the clearances, put pressure on through the middle and give our defenders some sort of chance to get third man up we should be able to beat the Roos fairly comfortably given their outs.

I doubt Norths gameplan has anything to do with it. If Johnson plays he will likely get the vest, regardless of our opponent this week. He needs the gametime if he is to play in Spetember, and like Dids two weeks ago, the best way to do that is via the sub bench.
