I think Blair may be the sub in order for Krak and Dick to get a proper hit out. This is more to do with him primarily playing as a small forward, than any form issues.

Tarrant out for Buckley (sub). Surely because there is no real WB tall forward?

"General Soreness" usually means they're just getting a rest. Buckley the sub, happy with that.

Is Tarrant really out? Confirmed?

If so, we can still cover his absence as the Dogs don't really have any standout forwards but interesting nonetheless.

No doubt the club is managing players with extra care this season, particularly with the opportunity to give some the extended break leading into the bye i.e. Beams too and Jols having a clean-up in the process.

Whilst I wrote (above) that the Dogs don't really have any real dangerous forwards, they still have some height to potentially exploit us now.

We only have one genuine tall in defence with Reid, whereas the Dogs will have Grant, Roughead and Minson to rotate through there. They may even swing Lake forward too to try and exploit us that way.

Perhaps Leroy will be needed to play some time in defence today on the resting ruckman i.e. Minson/Roughead.

We still should win.

If he's not injured then I love this. Hopefully Buckley gets some time and it's good that none of the guys in are the sub, also Dick gets a full game (unless subbed early).

If Taz is injured then we have some options to cover but hopefully not long term.

Let's get this game on!

Anyone else slightly worried?

These are the Dogs talls- Grant, Roughead, Jones and Minson. You can expect 2-3 to be on the ground around the same time. They can even throw Lake forward if Williams holds one of Dawes/Cloke and if Morris plays on the other.

Our lack of height in defence for today's match is worrying.

Harry - Grant
Roughead posses little worry I'd even have Maxwell on him
Reid can take the best tall, eg Minson, Lake or whoever they choose to play deep
Jones again, little worry.

Their main scoring will come from midfield and smalls, so we need Heater, Leon and the midfield to defend hard and then break away and make them hurt on the rebound.

If our intensity is there then I see no problems containing them.

Don't panic guys we can cover Taz for "general Soreness: As Zahki says it's a eumphemism for resting.
Player management, remember Taz is no teenager he will be on senior player management program and this will be part of the policy.

Win the middle, win the game. Even if Tarrant is injured for a few weeks (which I don't think is the case), bring in big Keefe.

Hmmm...

Surely we would have known that Taz wouldn't be playing this game and would be "rested".

Would have been wise to have Keeffe up our sleeve IMO.

We must be thinking that it is going to get heavy with rain so the ability to run and cover the ground will be important. The Dogs however, are comfortable going in tall.

Dale Essendon went in tall and it got them exactly nowhere. We have proven before we can starve any forward line of opportunity, could be the time to crank up the press closer to last years level.

Yes but we had our tall structure in place too with Tarrant playing on one of their dangerous talls Ryder/Hurley.

Will be interesting to see how we line up.

They're not going in that tall. I'm pretty sure we have their height covered in their forward line.

We're coming off a short break and Taz probably is a bit sore. He's had lots of injuries over the past few years and they've obviously thought about it for a day or two.

Buckley is a good cover as the sub. Not sure who Keefe's match up would've been and Keefe is still to debut so we can't expect so much from him at this stage. If he hasn't played by round 18 against Gold Coast then that's a target game for him.

I don't, Tarrent is a miles better defender than Buckley and we need as many good, reliable defenders in as possible especially with Maxy out of form.

I think there is something wrong with him, because Taz can play very well on smaller players so the weather shouldn't have played a part in his omission.

Yes our structure will be interesting, I hope we line up head to head. They have a good midfield but ours is better, they have decent tall forward options, ours are better. Likewise even with the loss of Taz our backline is superior and they can't touch us for potential spread of goal kickers. Time for the press to be cranked up and let loose those small forward scoring options, let them worry about trying to stop the myraid scoring options we have rather than worrying about the loss of one man.

bad feeling. sigh.

lake has troubled us even when we had a full defense in. i reckon this could be the week now.

very nervous.

Look at their team. How many flippin' goals have roughhead, jones and grant kicked?

Look at the team we are playing. We're not playing Reiwoldt types. Horses for courses and this course (tall forwards) is not that dangerous.

Obviously I'd rather have Taz play but he's not getting younger and he's been up all pre-season etc. I see little risk if it's a planned rest.

Boys off to the pub, enjoy. I am more confident than ever against the Dogs.

Have a great arvo and watch our guns tear them up!

Pies for life
