Agree ( with doppleganger above) we go in top heavy, we'll likely get cut to pieces.

Plan A = Maxy to take the non Tippett KPF, leave Goldy and the forward set up unchanged.
Plan B = Goldy to replace Maxy if he's getting chopped up.

Back our midfield to give us a chance.

But wow, how hot are they going, amazing turnaround from last year, and clearly Sanderson is an incredibly gifted young coach.

But then, we have a pretty gifted young coach too, so you never know!

No mate we were able to last until rd22 last year but we were gone after that:D

NAB Winner
2006 GEEL - End of Season 10th- lost 4 in a row RD 7-10
2007 Carl - EOS 15th - lost 7 in a row from RD 3
2008 St.k - EOS 4th and won only one game between RD 7 -12
2009 GEEL - EOS *1st - lost 3 in a row RD 13-15
2010 Bulldogs - EOS 4th - lost 3 in row RD 9,10,11
2011 COLL- EOS 1 St - lost 2 in a row RD 6 & 8: Note RD 7 was a Bye

I think the above stats support my point and also ADEL will be playing their 3rd Blockbuster in a row having played GEEL & CARL before us.
I Reckon they are gettable

In rd 6 last year we beat the Dogs by 48 points:p
Also in 09 Geelong lost their first game to StK in rd 14, so they won rd 13. Not to mention they won the flag.

Agree that Adelaide has been hot for a while but clutching at straws imo.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

The only problem with bringing Wood in, is that it takes away a runner, and without Swan and B.Johnson we are already behind the 8-ball. Adelaide's run and carry is what has been giving teams trouble, Tippett only bobbed up in junk time today, and Jenkins got his goals from general play...they didn't dominate the air.

Wood and Jolly both aren't agile enough to play as a forward, so don't like the look of them in the same team.

Go for a small team, and generate plenty of rebound and attack from the HB line...and back in Pendles, Beams, Sidey, Thomas, Wellingham and Blair to get the job done in the middle.

Considering he's coming in to replace Reid, exactly which runner are we missing out on? We were fine for smalls on Friday until Did's was subbed out and Swan went down injured! Further to that which runner do we have in the reserves that will come in and make an impact?

We have Young who everyone has written off, Ugle who was my other in, Elliot who's yet to debut, Williams who's yet to debut, Mooney who's yet to debut, Stubbs who's yet to debut, Seedsman who got KO'd on Saturday, Farmer who again is yet to debut and poor Yagmoor who I fear will cop more flak than Sinclair had to endure should he get the call up.

The choice is either to pick a big body to at least try to prevent Adelaide from dominating in the air or go with a horribly inexperienced runner who will have bugger all impact.

As it is Adelaide didn't dominate because of their runners. They dominated because they won the contested ball (151-123), clearances (48-42) and hit outs (54-46) all of which enabled them to spread the ball to their runners.

Let me ask you this what is more likely to help us win the contested ball, clearances and hit outs. Having a competent ruckman in the ruck 100% of the match or one of any number of lightly framed inexperienced smalls who rarely run to the right spots in order to be utilised as a runner?...

Another blockbuster, we're blessed!

Huge challenge to get the team balance right this week. Rather than negate the opposition I'd focus on playing to our strengths. Our defense will be small this week. How can that become an advantage?

I hope we throw everything at them becuase then we have 3 weeks after that we can sort of relax and recover.

Yep, and with 2 days extra rest then the Crows leading into this game, we have no excuses, at least none as to why we won't at least be competitive.

Load up this week Pies, throw the kitchen sink at the Crows and see how they react under real pressure, because the only time they were tested this year, they failed (Hawks at the G).

We can win this, but we will have to start well, because if you don't start well interstate, your chances of winning dramatically decrease.

I'm sticking with Young and Elliott as the ins, although I think they'll go with Ugle over Elliott, just based on the occasion and opposition.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

Adelaide are an incredibly physical side. It's a team of beef cakes. Whoever we get in have to be physically imposing, which, for me, rules out elliott, ugle and seedsman. Who does that leave us with?

I've heard that Young and Williams don't mind the contest, and with Swan out of our midfield, we need to get as close as we can to another strong bodied running type. This game more than any other will be decided by contested ball.

Although unlikely, I like the idea of having McNamara taking on Jenkins.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

Try something crazy.

Bring in Wood and a midfielder, and play Dawes back with Wood and Jolly rotating/resting in the goal square.

Would certainly throw a curveball at Adelaide.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

Adelaide looks the goods, but if past weeks "hot sides" are anything to go by we should be able to topple "the favorites".

Anyone else looking forward to another "right in front of me" moment?

Seriously though this presents a fantastic opportunity for the Pies to prove our quality.

Go Pies.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

Our last loss to Adelaide was in Rnd1 2009.

Cox was still playing and Fraser and Chris Bryan were our rucks.

Our last loss to Adelaide at AAMI was in Rnd18 2006.
Lonie, Jason Cloke, Chris Egan and Sam Isles were still playing.

not looking fwd to going to the game this weekend, think we are going to lose honestly.

I have a bad feeling Dale Thomas is going to get charged for striking Paul Chapman in the last qtr.

going to be a long week in Adelaide

I think your expectations are realistic mate,I asked last night about Thomas and some said he should be alright I am going to see if I can find it on video, but like you I fear about it he cost us big time last year and if he gets cited again in his first match back what sort of fool is he.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

Talking of strong bodies, Sinclair looked too light against Geelong last week, so if he remains in the side this week, which he will, bringing in Elliott or Ugle must surely be inadvisable. Those putting Young and Williams up for selection because of strong bodies are on the right track for this game. McNamara on Jenkins/resting rucks while Keeffe takes Tippett is not such a stupid suggestion either. Even the idea of playing Dawes in defence has some merit. It will be interesting to see the team structure because this is arguably our biggest test so far this year.

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

plenty of people, because the pies are still one of the best sides in the comp.

Yes, but without our main man Swan, it will be hard. Plus Adelaide are in supreme form at the moment and being at home will make it hard for Collingwood to get up.

Me. We will win this.

Man, I hope so! :thumbsu:

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

Is it just me or do we rarely ever meet the Crows without a key player missing?

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

To win we need to have the game on our terms, not sure we can get this often enough.
Forward 50s (and quality of ball entry in there) needs to improve, and I think we will struggle to be efficient when we go in.

If we get that efficiency up forward, we won't be beaten no matter who we play. It's our one achilles heel.

Whos actually going to tip the Pies this week?

im just waiting for dave to make his selection known - he is afterall the guru when it comes to making outlandish predictions - only for them to get up

Re: AFL Round 9 - Collingwood v Adelaide Crows - Sat 26/5/12 - 7.40 pm - Changes and Prematch Discus

The plan is simple (in theory) first use out of the middle 9/10 wins you the game - every time Carlscum got quick ball movement Adelaide backs got beat, can’t see them holding Cloke & Dawes + Goldy and some of our smalls... We have to play it on our terms.... and be ready for their spread... AAMI is a bigish ground so we need to cover the perimeters...

EXACTLY , we have Gold Coast then Melbourne before the bye, we can be 9-2 at the mid season break.
INS- taz
elliott [ who looked very dangerous in the preseason against them]
wood
OUTS-swan
reid
jolly [ was smashed by jacobs preseason over there, cant cover the ground ]

Thomas and Wellingham alternating on Dangerfield
Sidebottom against Sloane
Pendlebury will be tagged by Van Berlo
Beams against Thompson
Tarrant up forward [ FF]
Goldsack down back
do not allow the crows a loose man in defence, has lately troubled us against them until we went 1on1
just my thoughts
