You’ve all missed the point on the supposed ambassador money - IT CANNOT BE OFFERRED AS PART OF CLARKOS SALARY OR CONTRACT. You sign him within the soft cap then APPLY TO THE AFL AFTER THAT to see if they approve the ambassador payment. This puts us at a huge advantage as we will have soft cap space to cover Clarko and whoever he wants to bring in - as for GWS if they asked about the ambassador payment last week and got rejected then clearly they are struggling with the soft cap and cannot afford Clarkson. It’s clearly advantage North.
Not if the AFL tell them in advance that they will approve the request, wink wink.

You can give Clarko what ever he wants and not sign anyone else then head office bails them out and they sign the rest of the coaches.

Weird, some people. He can’t be ours until we see him in the polo with the contract signed. But any kite flown via the media that favours GWS and he is 100% theirs.

Nothing is done until it’s done. Coaching us, coaching them, coaching another club, taking another year out are all still live outcomes.

People who post that hes ours and we just need to patient are reflecting what they’ve been told from inside the club. Everyone says the club is confident so that all lines up. It might not mean their confidence is well founded in the end, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Nothing to be done except wait and see. Coming on here and whining that it’s over before it is, that’s way more annoying to me than what may or may not be misplaced confidence.

surely with clarko its not just who can offer the most money

id like to think keeping the family in melbs, coaching a non plastic team, coaching a side he has connections to etc play a big part
Correct but we are at a clear advantage money wise and GWS know it. Why else would they go back to the AFL. They can’t afford him unless they get that extra payment we can offer more without it.

He's gone up there to punch someone. "You blokes tried to sell me a Roller, but turns out 4 of your blokes are cash kings and the others, well, looks like half of them are gonna be flogged .... and bloody Pruess?? A Roller my @rse, more like a 93 magna without a spare!"

Thank you H2H

You haven’t seen this film before?

Is it not interesting that the afl announce the “adjustment “ to the stance re: ambassador payments then all the sudden gws re emerge .

We always seem to cop these “freak” occurances. Martin’s nz trip, Kelly/Gaffs last minute about face a number 1 pick who’s had the most go home pressure, a good player cracking the sulks then has has 6 weeks bereavement leave.

Maybe it just us

As said above, the AFL may have given the green light behind closed doors, thus Clarkson will accept a reduced soft cap salary

GWS big advantage was always money, and that's getting shaky.

In racing parlance we are travelling well around the turn and the jockey hasn't moved a muscle.
But you'd hate to be grabbed on the line.
Again I’ve seen this before

What would you accept if you’re Clarko - example /
Now GWS $1.3 million under soft cap plus POSSIBLY $300k ambassador and the $300k is not guaranteed and CANNOT be put in his contract or
NMFC $1.6 guaranteed under the soft cap.

It really, really isn’t just us, and every time is different. Happy to wait and see.

There may yet be a stage to come.

Clarko says no to GWS, then decides if it is us or wait another year/go backpacking in South East Asia etc.

The sudden turn around in policy for extra payments by the afl the day after the fourth meeting with GWS doesn’t augur well for us.
Quite simply we don’t need the extra cash they do.
Hope I’m wrong but ducks seem to be lining up.

Didn’t we have a whole thing a week ago that the money thing was bullshit and Clarko’s drive is getting the right team together?

The guy is interviewing for two jobs. GWS are getting to the end of their process with him, we’ve just started. Literally two days ago both our camp and his said we had made a very good start. He’s a serious guy following the process, he’s not going to jump until he’s gone the path with us too.

The AFL shot down the free handout prior to signing, they didn’t have to. They’ve indicated an avenue both clubs have but if you think the AFL would assure it to GWS they would just as easily assure it to us, let’s not forget we’re the ones after assistance and we’re also the one with a community program in place in The Huddle we could use.
