Which well known Orator do you think he has studied the most. Lots of manerisms, terms and speech patterns that sounded familiar to someone I have wanted to ignore.

If he is having the last laugh, how come people are still pissing themselves over his speech while he is sitting back waiting for Obama to want to meet him and discuss their theories on life.

"Right side of history" is textbook Obama, who says it in just about every speech he makes these days.

I thought Armstrong was supposed to be Prince, Harry just had to take that off him.;)

Yeah, but he seems so naive about it I can't begrudge him. I feel for him a little bit because he seems like a guy who has such a big heart and believes he is doing the right thing, but doesn't have the necessary self awareness to reign himself in at the appropriate times. I loved his speech for it's honestly but at the end it became obvious he is on somewhat of a slippery slope mentally and I can understand why the club wouldn't be fighting too hard to have him stay.
The posters on the closed thread on the main board just used Lumumba for verbal target practice. The speech was quite well delivered, but in the context of a Copeland award, it was irrelevant, and the final self-aggrandisement was cringe-worthy. Still he was a character and their numbers at the club are dwindling. Bye Harry.

Agreed...

Bye Harry.

I thought that he was translating the Brazillian meaning of his name, but I could be wrong?

His surname is not not Brazilian, it's origins are from Congo (Africa).
His mother is from Brazil and father is from Congo.
His mother came to Australia from Brazil and married and Aussie.
Harry used his stepfathers surname while he was alive.
When his stepfather passed away a few years ago, he chose to be Lumumba.
Apparently, he reckons he is related to this guy:

Is it correct that most clubs player lists are shite scared that H will come to them?
Have we been backed into a corner that has only the Dees as suitors?
No. There were several clubs enquiring about him. He had his pick of about 3 or 4 clubs that would have gladly taken him.

Funny, I thought Melbourne wanted him as a footy player, not as a public speaker.

Really don't get why people are bothered by Harry being a different cat. His speech wasn't rude or disruptive from what I've read, just more wtf? Why does that make him a lesser player?
It doesn't make him a lesser player but it points to why Collingwood are happy to let him go.

I have never been a big H fan, but apart from the bit at the end i thought the speech was good. To me it sounded like (in his own way) he was thanking the club.
We all know he is a different cat, but he is a premiership player. Even though he is leaving the club, at least he is leaving with some class. The thing i loved most about him was every week you knew that you were going to get 100% effort from him, however different his outlook on things may be, i dont think his commitment to getting the best out of himself purely as a player can be questioned.
Thanks for your time at the club mate. Best of luck with the rest of his career and future endeavors.

I think pick 22 is a fair price for AA player consistently top 10 finisher in the BnF.

Agreed. I got nervous when he mentioned Bucks but he kept it amicable and was all class. Couldn't help but be reminded that he just doesn't seem to fit in a football environment by the end of the speech. Like Shaw, H did something negative that got some media attention (again) and the club jumped at the opportunity to trade him. It's time, but all the best to him.

Can we just stop bagging people and stick to the thread title?, we know he is different but so what! What do we do with another 2nd round pick?

I agree, he gave us good service. He didn't snub his nose to his team-mates, club and us supporters, and came to the Copeland.
It hasn't worked out, he is moving on and I wish him luck at his next club.
Now lets look ahead and see what we get in terms of trade.

It's clear as day he wants to be the first player to come out as being gay. He's not actually gay, but he just wants all the media attention that comes with it. Feels Adam Goodes is getting too much of it at the moment.

He was struggling to read from his prewritten speech for 2 reasons. First was that he didn't write it all himself. He had someone who he thought was smart go over it with a thesaurus and make it sound smart to the average listener. Problem with that is the second reason; he struggled reading it and made many errors. He was supposed to finish with "My name is Sally O'Brien and that means I'm an overly sensitive princess who thinks my shit don't stink."

Seriously Harry, come out, get your much sought after media attention and then piss off to Melbourne and into obscurity as no one notices you playing for a piss ant club anchored at the bottom of the ladder.

what a dick post.

Seriously - the front page thread was locked so you just bring this shit onto the Collingwood page?

Because it was self indulgent, and more about Harry than team

Indeed. It's a B&F night FFS, all about football and celebrating the performances of the year.

If H wants to talk about matters outside of the club pertaining to community responsibilities, then he should have organised something separate with Eddie where it would have made sense and had some context.

Being serious here - if H wanted to have a platform to talk about politics or gender issues or same-sex attitudes within the game, then he had every opportunity to join into existing conversations happening within the AFL, or to organise other speaking events.

In the room on Friday night was neither the time nor the place, and - as one poster said previously - for someone who was so concerned about 'community' he sure made the whole thing about himself.

And yet people are fine having players who have been charged, or accused of: physical assault, sexual assault (and being a bystander to), illicit and PE drugs, gambling on football, or drink-driving on AFL lists.

The guy is clearly struggling with his identity, and is far from the only mid-20's male to be doing so - and is stuck doing it in front of a national media, and fans of the sport where he doesn't fit in as the stereotypical "bloke". Yes there are plenty of better ways that he could carry himself... but it's not like the guy has ever been accused of committing a crime, or actually harming anyone else in any way at all.
