Surprised, and curious as to why, that we haven’t heard anything official on any further list changes other than Masten, McInnes and the two basketballers.

Vozzo confirmed in an interview during the week that Schofield and Achee have both been offered new contracts but nothing so far on the futures of
Mutimer
Mallen
Brayshaw
Smith
Brooksby
They will work out how many to delist after the trade period settles. I'm guessing 2 more will be delisted from the main list. Brooksby will stay as injury cover now that Mcinnes is gone. Smith is anyones guess.

Can you just imagine the balls it must take to nail the premiership defining goal from a decent distance out and a tightish angle at the G with everyone in the crowd pretty much screaming at you to miss it?

They gave a runty ginger bloke called Paul Collingwood an MBE for scoring 17 runs on a flat deck at the oval 14 years ago when England regained the ashes. 17 f##king runs!!!!

We couldn't even name a f##king street after sheedy? Or give him some free gas??

Maybe they already did...

Sheed-St.jpg

They also gave him the keys to the city, so he probably has been gifted herpes now as well.

Recall reading Ah chee will stay and accept a 1 yr deal unless he can get a two year deal elsewhere. So that needs to play out before we go delist someone else.

Geez it would be great if either Gold Coast or Brisbane took him on to help sign his brother and we got a bit of a pick upgrade somehow. Ah chee plus a 2020 3rd for a 2019 3rd from one of the QLD teams.

Would imagine this would be fairly common to wait until after trade period. Lots of surprises happen late.

Essendon demanding a kp player in return in any deal for Daniher. Dodoro saying this draft there are no kp kids who come close and so they are super valuable this draft and next.

Should we look to take full advantage with Brander maybe?

Swans lose 5 plus 9 (Papely trade ) plus 44

Gain Daniher plus 33 ( Essendon) plus Eagles 2020 3rd (ex Geelong).

Eagles lose Brander plus Cats 2020 3rd

Eagles get pick 9 plus Swans 44 (really is Brander for 9 and pick swaps)

Essendon lose Daniher plus 33

Essendon gain pick 5 plus Brander (previous pick 13 and ready to go)

And yes we all know we dont want to trade Brander but even with Kennedy gone we still look too tall.

Pick 9 gets us Robertson and we then also have 44 and 46.

You just know Freo would be salty enough for missing out on TK to take Robertson at pick 7.

No - his quote reinforces just how good our last few drafts have been. We have stocked up excellently on young KPP, which combined with the fact that Darling, Barass and Gov all have several years left, means we will remain one of the strongest teams for KPP for years to come. Other former top teams who are trying to rebuild through these drafts are stuffed (ie Sydney and Geelong).

People bang on and on about how important mids are, but I see them as clearly second to KPP. Young players can come in and impact in the middle after 1 or 2 seasons, whereas KPP often take 3-5 before they are any good. I firmly believe in the idea that you rebuild through KPP first, then add the mids last, which is exactly what we're doing.

It is also clear that you don't need the best midfield to be a premier, as long as you at least have an average one with a few stars. Richmond and West Coast are probably around middle rung for midfield overall (a few standout players backed up with some solid B-graders) but have excellent KPP. No surprise that they've won the last three flags. Compare that to Collingwood, who have arguably the best midfield, but rely on Mason Cox at FF (lol).

I couldn't agree more, which is probably why seeing Oscar Allen sitting there for the taking threw a spanner in the TK works to begin with.

I agree to a point but how does Brander, Williams, O Allen, Waterman and Darling fit into one forward line? With potentially a resting ruck.

The question is will Brander be patient enough to hang around.

Glass needs to an apprenticeship before he can be considered for higher duties .
Remember this appointment with us, is in fact a bit of a promotion in itself.

Another names that’s been bandied around for a possible Mgmt role with in the Club going forward is Don Pyke.
Word is that he is having 6-8 months break and then will be looking to return to the workforce.
Former Club Board Member and a successful business man in his own right.....So well credentialed.

That said Vozzo has done a good job in whatever role he has done for the Club.

Nissey position certainly would have already had some strategic transitional management time put into it.

One thing the Clubs Boards ( over the years ) have excelled at it its Corporate Governance and Executive Appointments. “The Suits” at the Club run a slick, highly efficient and effective organisation.

Which reminds me that I was once talking with a prominent member of the media and he commented that West Coast is one of the few AFL Clubs that just doesn’t leak information EVER.
If fact his exact words were “ it’s easier to pull a tooth from a leopard on the run than getting any inside information out of West Coast “.
There's an executive search/board consulting firm in Perth that deals with many of the board/executive appointments at the club.
One of the directors at that firm had no small part in Simmo's appointment - was spruiking him to whoever would listen.
They were also responsible for Freo's CEO appointment the other day.
Needless to say that a lot of work goes into these things behind the scenes.

So every other team has basically passed on 2 fantastic kp options in OAllen and Brander, with high picks, now they have similar picks we are going to trade one of these guys for a similar price we paid in a worse draft after 2 years of development.

Absolutely not. We are not in the business of making other teams stronger.

Brander to defence or if anyone is not going to be in the future 22 out of that bunch its probably Waterman

Wouldn't want to trash our depth for effectively a late pick swap. If Ah Chee is happy to stay on playing for the Beagles and hopefully push for senior selection, then no reason to get rid of him. Would be more useful in 2019 and 2020 than the 50th best kid in the country.

Venables IS NOT A HFF. Hes either a full time mid or hes out of the team.

Both Petch, Cameron, Waterman have shown more than Venables in his 22 games at HFF. Venables is terrible at HFF.
He did OK in the finals last year! Clearly it is better if he became a full time mid as he develops but he was actually recruited as a mid/forward and that could be handy rather than just another full time mid waiting on one of our other mids to fall over. As you say, (Both??) Petch, Cameron and Waterman have shown signs and all are different in style. Venables offers something a bit different again.

Its okay to not have a bunch of picks in this draft. Its not a super draft just a standard one.

Not point replacing one young KPP with another young KPP.

We can sit this one out.

Yep, it takes some of the excitement out of draft night(s), and the googling of potential players prior, but being so late there is every chance we have to Google an unknown player or two afterwards!

The 2 priorities coming in to trade period were to keep our list together (including young and developing players who are no doubt being courted by other clubs) and to get TK. Both are now done so no need to insert ourselves into discussions and potentially stuff up the first part.

Are the WA kids available in the 10-30 range any better then the kids we have now is what I am wondering.

I think people get too caught up in the draft hype. To me these prospects are no different from the last few year's prospects.

Unless of course you could trade for someone like Sam Taylor from GWS. Funnily enough Brander just missed out on GWS's zone.

Maybe not, but if the next few drafts are short on KPP, then he should have trade currency to allow us to swap him for a mid. He could do with some exposed form, which I suspect he will get from Schofield playing fewer games.
