Anthony Albanese - How long? -2-

Would it pause the redistribution? Or would it force the redistribution to be announced early (with issues for preselection etc)

The redistribution would be paused only for so long as the election to be held. It wouldn't be rushed.

What does happen if an election is called mid-process is:

1. in the case of a state with a seat being abolished (Victoria for example this time around), they combine the two smallest (population wise) neighbouring seats for that one election
2. in the case of a state with a seat being added (WA this time around) they take the largest seat (population wise) and cut it in half for that one election

No greens or socialists?
there was a greens candidate with no social media presence to know what they were like

you're not getting vic socialists or anyone running out here

like I said safe Liberal seat, we get all the religious and reactionary candidates,

labor and greens basically just run someone to run someone

The stated reason the ALP has punished floor-crossers in the past is that their strength is in their solidarity with each other. Picking and choosing when to enforce party discipline based on the circumstances is an interesting move. I agree the PM has many things to consider. He's in a position his political opponents both on the left and the right don't have to worry about on Israel - the Greens are united on one view and the Liberals are united on a different view. The ALP has both views inside the party.
It was mentioned (I have not fact checked) that support of Palestine is consistent with alp party policy. So perhaps there is exception made when you are voting in line with the stated policy and your leader (and others) are voting against policy due to political needs

Makes me appreciate that I do get the full gamut (Clive Palmer types to vic socialists)

ALP policy officially is for a two state solution but they won't recognise Palestine as a state

With inflation going up again and more interest rate rises your bizzaro world is going to get more bizarre when Dutton becomes PM.
I do suspect he's going to have to intervene. When most of the inflation is caused by necessities there's a problem. Jacking up rates isn't going to fix it.

It's reached crisis point and needs intervention. It needs someone with the balls to make an unpopular but right call.

The difficulty is what ever call he makes will be attacked

The local senator sent out the usual bullshit propaganda from the federal government as we live in a lower house LNP seat.

Did find it interesting that the only local project he could spruik was they were spending a couple of million on fixing an intersection the Andrews Labor government just recently spent a lot of time and money fixing…

Can’t get anything right the first time…

I hate it when Federal Politicians lower themselves to local roadworks.

We got a set of traffic lights.

Then they completely redid them 2 years later ( Covid government employment sceme ).

then they had to build new traffic lights at a side road that everyone started using to avoid the traffic lights.

Although we are in a state liberal seat so we get absolutely nothing from the state for roadworks. There are a number of extremely dangerous intersections constantly ignored.

The Federal government finally looked to step in and offered funding at the last election but Albo quickly cancelled it when he won.

Build your own, make it more dangerous and that will force their hand (or keep the remote control and always have a personal green light)..

Its always fun to have all the lights go green at the same time.

There's actually a thing ambulances have that trips some of the traffic lights.

Why can a Tesla that costs around $100K tell if cars are coming, but multi-million dollar traffic lights don't know that there are no cars coming the other way ( with the green light ) and all the cars are being stopped by the red light. Then they wait until a car does come the other way and finally changes so they have to stop. Or do they know and they are trolling?

These are the ALP's rules.
Sh*tty rules from a sh*tty party. I would have thought you'd have seen the drawback to those rules given the Liberal Party gives its MPs more freedom. If blind obedience is your thing, maybe you ought to switch parties.

Senator Wong has a point.
No, she's trying to shame Payman into selling out her values for the party. Just because Wong was a spineless coward, it doesn't mean everyone else should be.

I wasn't agreeing with any of it, I was saying that the ALP's rules are clear and Senator Wong adhered to them and Senator Payman did not. It is clear that "hold your nose and stick together" is a cultural value of the ALP.

I am a member of a party that has different rules.

Wonderful! Stupendous! What a useless post!
The ALP believes that if you don't have the value of "we stick together", otherwise known as solidarity, any other value doesn't matter that much anyway because the strength you have in numbers and togetherness is diminished. Make any comment about Senator Wong that you want, but she's just expressing that right now in relation to Senator Payman.
