Anthony Albanese - How long? -2-

Yeah it is but people at the start don't know how to do **** all... and can't work on their own unsupervised...

It's not rocket science being an electrician but it still takes years to learn...

House bashing isn't that difficult from a technical point of view. However, Industrial control is an area which electricians need to become more familiar with for plant operations.

Yes of course. I am arguing for a different mode of delivery for a Cert 3 in Electrotechnology be completed. There's too much variation within the TAFE course itself and if an apprentice has a shit mentor, he will be pretty shit as well.

At least two of those are funding announcements - he's going to put on the scarf. This is a beat up.
Sorry, don't know that I agree.

Were I to run for office, become leader of my party and potentially become PM of this country, you'd never see me donning anything other than a Carlton scarf for publicity. Even if it'd get me booed - as it did when I did it as a kid in 2001 - I'd still do it.

Your footy team is a part of who you are, if you grew up with it. It has its roots in family, in culture, in your context. If you can change teams so flippantly, it says something about you.

It's not an intellectual position, but that doesn't render it any less valid.

Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't don the scarf. Do we have a picture of him wearing other NRL team colours? I know Albo madly loves South Sydney - perhaps he just doesn't have strong feelings about AFL teams.

You wouldn't find me in anything other than a Saints scarf. Having said that, I'll probably be wearing my Brisbane Bears heritage jumper on Saturday (I bought it as a training jumper as it is so awful).

I'm not buying the fact that not being as passionate about your team in a particular code is a justification... If you're into it enough that you are happy to join the circle for the team's song, don't wear someone else's scarf... Ever...

Could you imagine the (totally valid) uproar if he wore a Maroons scarf if he was up North providing funding for rugby league in Qld?

That rationale sets the path for unending migration to backfill roles supporting the ever increasing population driven completely by migration. I'd rather do what Japan is doing and work through such issues domestically without chasing an unending migration Ponzi scheme. Let the domestic market deal with it.
And how’s that going for them? I recall they were aiming to get robot nurses for older people. I think they also had a higher inherent cultural desire to look after own parents and multigenerational households (that’s a feel not fact checked)

If you want me to be critical of the current ALP PM, I have a bit of stuff if you want.

I still say it's a beat up. If we are making voting decisions based on scarf wearing...

Albo is enough of a hawks fan to not be criticised here

Especially when we have a president who between his hawks gigs offered to president Melbourne fc

Mind you the president who left in that time was an out and out Essendon supporter

But we are told there ain’t many people putting their hand up to president the most successful club of the last 100 years
We are told……..

I agree, and I disagree. We've definitely made more of it than it's worth (which makes sense, being a football forum) but from a political perspective, it's just a silly thing to be doing. You are more likely to alienate people by jumping around than if you didn't.

The politically engaged won't make their decisions on irrelevant stuff like this, but there would be some who do, so why run that risk?

You don't need electrical qualifications for programming PLC's.

I think we all sort of agree.

Albo is a poor leader because he doesn't want to make the fundamental changes needed to ease the housing affordability crisis or cost of living crisis. Funny as him changing teams like the weather is, why are people going on about this for a whole page rather than his fecklessness on the issues that matter?

The country doesn't have enough qualified trades people to build the quantity of houses needed to alleviate the supply problem.
You'd think tradespeople would be the first job on the skills shortage list. I think the sheer numbers on skilled immigration aren't as important as how they're targeted. If we were taking in hundreds of thousands of experienced tradies a year, I'd be perfectly happy with that.

There are some interesting trades on the list, makes it seem more like they are critical to lobbyists business interests not the nation.

amusement centre manager, antique dealer, actor (how many under employed Australian actors are there already?), author, b&b operator, betting agency manager....

I don't think the country will fall apart without more of them and that is just from the first few pages. And that is before we even look at how many of the gaps could be covered by better cheaper access to tafe

I'm with you. To me it beggared belief that accountant was on the list for so long when we churn out thousands of commerce graduates each year and plenty of them struggle to get a job.

I think a lot of it comes down to business wanting more wage competition and to avoid having to train workers.

I can't remember even having the national debate where we got a say in "big Australia pumped in on steroids" over the Japanese model of short term pain for long term gain.

I don't think that there was any national debate in Japan either about whether they would stay insular.
Australia has always had political parties which oppose imigration (recall one in the 1990s when I was at uni). If there was appetite for a zero immigration platform those parties would have been popular. One of them even had the parents of a famous tv star involved (who went on from Neighbours to House among other roles)

They got **** all support.

Which means just because you want no immigration does not mean that it was a majority view.

I suspect it's because a fair portion of those coming out of Commerce degrees have delusions of grandeur and couldn't imagine slumming it as an actual accountant.

The Israeli attack on Lebanese civilians will be the last straw for a lot of voters. Albanese and Wong won't show any spine and can't say "release the hostages" to a country holding no hostages.

So they'll just shed another few hundred thousand voters in ALP heartland. Regardless of if they win the lower house, the ALP have shown they can't negotiate with the upper house at all and they'll definitely lose seats in the Upper House. They're going to lame-duck it to the next election trying to make a point to Murdoch and friends about not working with the Greens and then fall even further behind in 2PP as well as 1st preferences.

The ALP won't get CFMEU electoral support and a lot of their backers will completely jump ship.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Albanese get the knife before the next election. He's been spineless hasn't risen to the office and is shedding the electorate as well as support bases.

Albo and Wong have been spineless on Netanyahu, Putin, and Xi but do you really think it will cost hundreds of thousands of votes. Maybe a few go green but most Australians whilst caring would consider it a low priority issue compared to cost of living health environment etc

Lebanon is a big deal in Sydney in particular. Very different bombing Beirut to bombing Gaza City or Jabalia. At least in terms of direct Australian interests.

I don't think there was a dire shortage of graduates applying for jobs in accounting. They may have been a reasonable level of demand for CAs and CPAs (I'm not sure tbh) but that's something our own young people can be trained in.

I am in the middle of a recruitment process as we speak for 2 x entry level accounting roles. Of the applicants we have had, not even 10% are not originally from overseas.

The training isn't the issue. The having the desire to actually do the grunt work in an entry level role most certainly is.

Apart from wearing a couple of different teams scarves at funding announcements has Albo been spotted in the rooms or in the crowd wearing anything other than a Hawks scarf?

Carlton has Josh Frydenberg as our number 1 ticket holder for a while......if any other team would like him as a supporter please feel free to take him.
