Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

I'll still go with my mail as I trust it that Bass is back to backline - wonder what's happening to forward line then, perhaps a coach who finished up yesterday? Gray? Chadbro?

It's certainly possible, also the Eseendon coaching candidates are all in limbo.

And two more senior coaching positions could open up suddenly.

So to summarise where we're currently at for coaching roles for 2023:

  • Senior coach: Hinkley
  • Forwards: Bassett
  • Mids: Carr
  • Defence: Cornes still?
  • Sanfl: Goldsack
  • Dev coaches: Hartlett and Luke Kelly (assume he's staying on)

If this is what we end up with, we can't expect any success in 2023. The hope I guess is that we're keeping it bare bones to allow a new senior coach to bring in his own people at the end of 2023.
It really feels like we are just going through the motions again in 2023.

So basically 2 years we have just wasted not recruiting players or coaches and just waiting for Ken to retire.

Well either find out this week, or we are scraping the bottom of the barrell.

I could accept Bassett being moved back to defence, Cornes to hype man/running water, and bringing in a decent forwards coach. But that would still be a bare bones coaching department, and I still want Hinkley to go after 2023.

Your assuming this is Ken’s last year 😂😂😂

Who the **** would look at port right now and think 'yes that's where I want to go to enhance my credentials '

  • Dopey senior coach on last legs
  • Bunch of assistants on last legs
  • Full blown ladder capitulation

Carr came because he was dragged home for family.

Hartlett was already here working for the AFLW.

Anyone else is likely to be in SA or already on the AFL/W panel.

Arnell will be a development coach of some kind.

Actually has big ramifications leage wide in many ways, could cause a slow tidy up for many teams for sorting next year. At some point teams might settle for other options.

Not looking great if you’re North.

It all feels very cheap and in-house. Hartlett might be a fine development coach, but at the end of the day he played the 'Hinkley brand' for most of his career and has nothing new to add. Same with Goldsack - he's been part of that god awful shit SANFL program for the past two years and is now running it.

I would of liked to see us look at a Surjan or J. Sheedy and see what they can do with the SANFL team. Sheedy in particular has some experience with developing talent and his team has played some excellent football.

We also desperately need a senior assistant. Again, someone external who has some outside ideas.

Call me cynical but in most places you announce/complete changes after the “review” results are determined.
So far Monty is gone, Lokan is gone, Carr and Hartlett signed on, Kenny declared safe a month or 2 ago.
Somehow this “review” seems to be heading towards “the players didn’t work hard enough for long enough…”

Was there any other thing ever going to happen?

The review will find, 'we lacked effort early and copped a few untimely injuries that were impossible to prepare for.'

Forget it man, any logic we try to put against what we've heard come out of the club will get you nowhere. The most coward era in our history.

I'll go with:

Hird to Essendon. Yze might have been recent favourite, but he was also at Hawthorn at the same time as Clarkson and Fagan.

Brad Scott to Brisbane.

North Melbourne to fold.

As for PAFC, Hartlett is an interesting one. I was fairly confident he would stay at West and play under his brother, which my tell us something about the West position. I know West were blindsided.

If Hird gets Essendon, then Solomon probably will join him.

I would like us to get in an assistant from another finals club.
