"For Teague, the timing of his return to Melbourne and to Carlton seemed right, as the past three years have not been easy for him personally – and as he confided to Head of Football Andrew McKay, he needed to be back with his own ones.

“I was never going to leave Adelaide to go anywhere else. I was always coming back to Melbourne,” Teague said.

“I’ve got three young kids and another one in between who passed away (and) these past three years have been pretty tough for myself with Phil (Walsh) and my own son - so to have family support is really important for me.”

“One thing about being involved with footy clubs, is that when adversity comes people reach out and you do see how much love there is. Most of the news you see, hear or read these days is generally negative, but when something bad happened to me the thing that stood out was how many good people there are out there . . . and football clubs are part of that.”

Forever grateful for the support afforded him by Adelaide as he dealt with his own profound personal loss, Teague also remembered “that when I got back to work, Phil was the one who challenged me, saying ‘Come on, get off your butt, get going again’”.

Teague also took the liberty of thanking the Adelaide players, particularly the forwards with whom he had worked so closely.

“I had great relationships with the players who have been phenomenal in terms of what they’ve been through and their capacity to have stuck together,” Teague said.

“That’s why it’s pretty hard to be leaving, and I’ll be honest, when I went around the room this morning to say goodbye to the guys I nearly cried when I spoke to them because what they did to help me was massive.”
Teague has been impressive & will be a loss.

All the best to him at Carlton.

Did we trade him for Gibbs?

To remain relevant next year and push again, we need change to revitalise the group.

We need new ideas and different ways of doing things to evolve our game plan and players.

I feel that starts with changes with coaching group.

Francou is a good start, but we need more.

The right changes are fairly obvious, not that the club can see it:

Podsiadly → Retained!
Camporeale → FIRED for Francou
Clarke → FIRED for literally anyone
Teague → Carlton, replaced by O'Keefe

O'Keefe → Upgraded from development to assistant, replaced by a freshly retired non-Adelaide player
Van Berlo → Retained
Kaesler → Retained
Thomas → Retained

The worst thing they could do is say "we finished top and just missed out, no need for big changes". We will drop away if that happens

I know we haven't won anything and I agree with fresh faces, but it's funny how much hate campo and Clarke get still, considering the form our mids and ruck showed this season. Herd mentality.

Not saying I would object to a change.

Why the hate for Clarke? Sauce had one of his best years yet and beat the eventual all Australian ruckman convincingly and I would think Clarke had a lot to do with the planning involved. Jenkins ruck work has also been solid as the 2nd ruckman.
One argument could be here that even if Clarke is doing a good job with Sauce he would have taught him all he can so getting fresh ideas in can revitalise and add to the players working under him.

Listening to Hocking interviewed this morning he mentioned how each club/group he has worked under he has learnt new bits of info. This is one knock on our coaching group, while they may be good coaches they have also had a narrow field of employment so not being able to grow as much as coaches. Its not good for them or us.

Solid ? Not for me. Jenkins only manages when we are running downhill. He is not a body contester.

My theory is that all roles are being reviewed and Campo and Clarke will likely be retained, but potentially re-contracted with changes to their roles. Campo, who I don't rate much, is obviously popular with the players as there's much reference to that. But that on its own would make him a great development coach, it doesn't speak to his ability as a selector, strategist, ability to judge changes in the game and ability to make decisions that adapt to those changes. I'm not saying that he's not great at those things, but Matty Crouch singling him out for the great work that he's done with him, doesn't speak to anything else than his one on work with that player. Senior Assistant and Midfield Coach have many more critical duties than working one on one with players.

I have a deep suspicion that the AFC has been fantastic at identifying development coaches (my suspicion is Alan Stewart played a great role in this).

Very few blokes who have been drafted to the AFC haven't one way or another found their potential.
