Holy heck!! Are we hitting anew era? Where we can state a players intention openly without fear? I love that this could be the start of a new norm. Imagine if Danger could have told us at the beginning of the year he left. Would have saved thousands of pages reading the is he going thread!!

good luck to Rat. Met him once at a corporate event. He came across as extremely down to earth. I asked him who he grew up supporting as a kid. He said he honestly didn’t support a team, but just loved playing footy.

Geelong did not have a massive amount of cap room. Where does this revisionist idea come from? It didn’t form part of the equation back then

Geelong and Wells were adamant they weren’t going to break their cap structure for anyone; they had committed so much money to other players, they could not lodge a big, unmatchable offer

and if they did, it would have sunk them as a team. which is a big win for us

Geelong traded because they had no choice.

Given they had to trade, we extracted a poor deal

Cats fans should riot if Wells chose to give us those picks out of the goodness of his heart! Lol

Didn’t happen.

Of course they had massive amounts of cap room. It is absolutely undeniable with the players they had out of contract. Are you saying that isn't true? It was VERY widely discussed.

And of course it was part of the equation. They were in discussions about the Danger trade for months, and it absolutely would have been noted.

Why would Geelong NOT point out they have a massive stick that they don't want to use unless they had to?

Your naivety to think "no, they wouldn't discuss that, Adelaide is just stupid" is pretty shocking from you.

There were only a couple of players left from the salary parity days - Bartel, Corey and others were all finishing up.

Obviously they WANTED to keep their salary structure and bring other players in. I stated very clearly that they chose to pay extra in picks instead of paying extra in salary.

It's absolute foolishness to think that was a massive thing we had over them, though.

If we played a brinksmanship game like you're proposing, they would have told us to get stuffed.

David Noble said it himself why he didn't go harder on the Dangerfield deal. He might have to deal with Geelong again in the future and wants dealing with them to continue to be an amicable process. That was his MO and one of his bigger failings as a Footy Manager, he didn't want to put the screws to a team trade wise because they might come back and do the same to him.

We did the same when we ponied up a 2nd round pick for Curtly Hampton even though he was well out of GWS's plans by that point.

Dogs 2nd round pick would be ideal for Hately

Meanwhile, unrestricted free agent Rory Atkinsappears destined for Gold Coast on a five-year deal, as first reported by foxfooty.com.au on August 30.

Sources say the deal will be worth as much as $500,000 per year, which will likely deliver Adelaide compensation in the second round of the draft.

Victorian clubs believe Atkins to the Suns is as good as done, but it won’t be confirmed until October 30 at the earliest.

Holy. Hell.

Honestly, if they're paying Atkins $500k they should have their funding cut.

If I was a footballer I want his agent. That put him in Steven Motlop territory. Start of round 2 , it was pick 19. Good on him and I wish him well and hope he has a lot of F/s for us.

GC have a mid-R1 pick as well, which they've already traded, so the first round is already picks 1-19.

If we get B2 compensation, then we'd have pick #20 (compo) and pick #21 (our own 2nd round pick).
If we get B3 compensation, then we'd have pick #20 (our own 2nd round pick) and pick #21 (compo).

There's not a whole lot of difference there, unless multiple teams get Band 2 compensation.

Two wins in a row, kids looking like they might be decent footabllers, Gibbs doing the right thing and retiring, now this. Pick 20 for Aktins lol that is crazy good.
Things sure are looking better now than a few weeks ago.

Big difference, B2 gets us first pick on the second night of the draft which has proven to be valuable.
