the big man is coming!!

thanks to Cricket Australia for giving us a day/night match..
I think our bowlers will enjoy being under the floodlights..

if we cant win here in Adelaide , we might as well go home..
According to the ECB he's going on holiday to NZ. I call BS. He's going to get picked for the 3rd test.

I think Mitch only bowled in the Shield Game to see how he was feeling. He is a long way from being fit enough to pick in a test match as an all rounder.

Aussies should definitely pick him.

The two D/N tests at Adelaide Oval have both been bowler friendly.

Last year 33 wickets fell in 4 days, the year before 37 wickets fell in 3 days.

If that's the expectation again then we need to pick our best batting line-up. At batsman at 6 capable of making 50 or 100 or more is more valuable than another seamer. If we're skittling teams with one ball (ie 80 overs or fewer) we don't need a 5th bowling option.

If anything we should be looking at the line-up for the third test in Perth. Last year South Africa declared their second innings after 160 overs then bowled us out on day 5. The year before was a run fest against NZ where Starc, Hazlewood and Johnson bowled 97 overs between them in the first innings and would've done so again in the second if tests didn't cap out at 5 days. When we're talking about our fast bowlers bowling 30-40 overs and needing to bowl long spells two days in a row then we can reassess the #6/7 positions, and/or resting quicks.

Woakes depends too much on the duke ball and English conditions IMO
each time he goes overseas he fails to threaten.
Great point. Hadn't noticed that. Averages 69 outside of the UK. Not from 1 or 2 test matches. 8 test matches outside the UK is a fair chance to show off what you got.

We aren't dropping players after one knock, people have doubts about maxwell vs the best quicks so what happens if he nicks off early to anderson or broad we them dump him for perth?
It's not just one knock , it is the last 11 times Khawaja has got out to spin , he is clueless against spin , he needs to fix this before he plays for Australia again

He has faced spin in nz and at home the last 3 years and still found a way to survive that and then dominate the best quicks which is why they backed him for the ashes, why would they back him to do that this summer but then dump him after one knock at home?

Some players rise to a new level in conditions that favour them then fall away otherwise. Ashwin has 259 wickets @ 22 in Asia but averages 54 from 6 tests in Australia. Matthew Hoggard was a classic English opening bowler who relied on a full length and some seam movement/swing from the Duke ball. He never did a great deal here, whereas Stuart Broad who used to regularly come on at 1st change is a more complete bowler overall and adapts better to our conditions.

Jimmy Anderson has a stack of wickets at 24 in England but despite still working hard averages 38 here, while Glen McGrath averaged 22 in Australia and 19 in England. Brett Lee who relied on sheer pace averaged 45 in England and didn't get the most out of the Duke. English quicks who don't do well here tend to struggle getting the right length and the fact that the ball doesn't have as pronounced a seam. Aussie quicks who struggle abroad whether in England which can be seam friendly or the subcontinent which favours spin usually try to bowl too short and don't adjust for the lower bounce.

Hoggard had a 7 wicket haul in Adelaide on a road in 07. Lee played injured really in 01

Do you want your number 3 just trying to survive when they bring on the spinner ?

One clear change for me , in maxwell out khawaja

You can't have a number 3 playing for Australia that can't play spin !

Marsh moves to 3 and Maxwell bats where Marsh was batting
Kwaja will get another test but if he looks hopeless then gets out to Ali and or Root I can see this happening.

I would advocate an unchanged side for the time being.

If Khawaja is of use anywhere, it will be in these conditions.
