Wade's batting is significantly overrated. Not nearly good enough to make up for his keeping.
Average of 39 in FC cricket. That's more than Dhoni, same as Prior and very good for FC cricket.

Apparently to be a good cricketer you have to be able to fight in an innings. Unfortunately for the Vics, they don't realise that you need to be able to hit the ball and catch it as a keeper.
You are hilarious - He is a tough cricketer and a competitor, he won't take a backward step. He has a competitive nature that is valued in team sport. if you have played sport, you would recognize this.

Wade and Haddin have the same average. Wade has 2 hundreds from 12 tests and Haddin 4 from 50-odd. Haddin is far more consistent and has dug us out of plenty holes too. I'd wager Haddin has Wade covered on Shield records too. The_Reaper might be able to help us out there.

The shield difference is negligible- Haddin averages 42 compared to Wade's 40.90. Nevill 39.57- and a much better keeper than Wade. Whiteman mid 30s, a better keeper but young. He does have a double century though at first class level.

From memory Haddin had a great season where he averaged over 50 before he made his comeback.

Wade's batting isn't so much better than the other keepers that it makes up for his subpar keeping.

And it's not so good that he can be selected as a batsman

Can someone who understands all the symbolism and tokenism of the Phil Hughes Grief process explain to me if Haddins duck was for Phil as much as Warners century?

I'm just not sure who is doing what for whom today.

What exactly is your problem with all this Phil Hughes stuff?

Give it a rest.

So is it out of Hartley and Whiteman to replace Haddin? Whiteman is obviously the long term replacement. I really hope they pick Whiteman, have followed him since he came into the Warriors team in late 2012. He is a star and it would be great for him to get into the test team.

Would be out of Nevill and Whiteman.

Hartley is 33.

Also bullshit to call him a selfish arrogant prick. The way he has handled the past two weeks has been absolute class. Doing his best to shield the family an sacrifice himself is not what I'd call selfish or arrogant.[/QUOTE]
cool story. Keith Bradshaw James Sunderland Wayne phillips there also been all class as well. he's the captain that's just what his job is I expect no less.
reguardless of everything that's happened last couple of weeks he is unfit to play this match he decided otherwise that's selfish.

What is also highly valued is actually having talent and ability to play the game at the top level. While Wade may have the toughness, he certainly doesn't have the ability.

We should bring in Faulkner next match right?

I would say it's advantage Australia, especially since Smith is still out there.

Anything pushing 450 is a good total, the game being in Adelaide notwithstanding.

If people want to debate Wade's selection in the team then it's open for debate right?
His keeping flaws are overblown imo, after all it's not like Haddin was ever great with gloves either .

Lets say Haddin breaks down tomorrow, who do you think the selectors will pick to replace him? I'm confident I know who they'll pick.

He's certainly not the worst wicketkeeper I've seen in International cricket. He wasn't spectacular, but he held his own.

Hopefully Hartley or Nevill

If Rogers broke down tomorrow they'd probably go for Cowan- that doesn't make Cowan anything other than a good shield player.

Give the Phillip Hughes stuff a rest. You've made your point ad nauseam.

And your choice is?

Inanimate carbon rod is the safest choice

Haddin is far more consistent and has dug us out of plenty holes too. .

He has also put Australia in plenty of bad spots, both in missed keeping chances AND also failing - throwing his wicket away with the bat.

The same selectors picked Maxwell to bat at 3. "Because the selectors said" is not a good reason.

Well it seems pretty clear that whoever made the decision to play Clarke made a serious error of judgment. We now are left one bat short with Brad Haddin captaining the side.

All those who think Clarke "had" to play because it was the first test since Phil died, he could have played the same role as non-playing captain. The "occasion" was put before the best interests of the team.

India will be a tough cookie to crack on this pitch, even more so playing ten on eleven.

Exceptional circumstances and I have no issue with Clarke playing.

I disagree that he could have played the same role as a non playing captain.

Johnson and Harris blow these campaigners out of the water tomorrow arvo.
