I think everyone is forgetting Clarke went into the game with an injury cloud on his hamstring, not his back. He has degenerative problem with his back, it could goat any time. Unluckily it happened the very test there was some doubt over his hamstring. But it had nothing to do with his injury cloud coming into the game, just bad luck.
Disappointing end to a day we dominated has left things about even in my opinion. We won't have Clarke to bat again. As harsh as it sounds, maybe Warner should take heed of throwing his wicket away when he is dominating. Rogers, Watson and Haddin should be playing for their future but I doubt that the selectors think that. Impressed with Marsh and think he has a big future- bowling or not. Smith and Warner are at the peak of their powers at the minute.
I think Wade deserves another go over Haddin, especially since Smith is standing up as a viable stand in captain over Clarke.
As for Clarke, he shouldn't have played but I think everyone understands why he did but it won't ever happen again.
All in all a pretty good effort today considering the turmoil of the last couple of weeks.
Which I think is flawed logic.Doesn't change the fact that Wade is in my opinion - not good enough to be a full time test keeper.
The only person here who has more than guesswork to work with in regards to the selectors is @western_royboy anyway
He saved Australia a couple of times against South Africa in the One Dayers and has a test century. He's a good player
Which I think is flawed logic.
Healy was a great gloveman.
His successor, Gilchrist, not quite as good.
His successor, Haddin, even worse.
Now Wade was selected as our test keeper with keeping on par with Haddin imo, which has now improved. He is rightfully 1st in line for Haddin's place.
Hopefully he gets another 50 more runs to start putting pressure on.
Short answer YesHe's not first in line according to western royboy
And just because keeping standards are going down doesn't mean they should continue to do so. Gilchrist's batting more than made up for it.
Haddin's batting compared to Hartley and Manou made up for it.
Is Wade's batting that much better than Nevill and Whiteman?
Short answer Yes
If people want to debate Wade's selection in the team then it's open for debate right?
So I assume you've been following the Vics around the country to keep an eye on Wades keeping?
Wade and Haddin have the same average. Wade has 2 hundreds from 12 tests and Haddin 4 from 50-odd. Haddin is far more consistent and has dug us out of plenty holes too. I'd wager Haddin has Wade covered on Shield records too. The_Reaper might be able to help us out there.
There is a reason why Haddin has been selected ahead of Wade in the past
but there are reasons to revisit that today
Should've been a clear winning day for us, but Warner had a brain fade, Clarke predictably cooked, Marsh has a lapse in concentration....
We're still in a strong position - then Bad strides out and gets a duck in the last over.
He's done - make Smith the VC tomorrow and move on from HADDIN.
Give the Phillip Hughes stuff a rest. You've made your point ad nauseam.
Yes.That one extra run on average over Nevill is worth that much?
Which is fair enough. The snide references to it in every post is unnecessary, though.I'm sure his frustration is due as much to the commentators and the media circus about this than anything else, I'm glad I'm not the only one to be honest. There's a lot to be said for a dignified, simple memorial and then getting on with the job.
Yes.
He has a test average .41 higher than Haddin
A FC average 2.43 higher than Whiteman.
7.62 higher than Hartley.
Whilst being 2.02 less than Nevill.
What he has in favour over the last 3 is that he already has test experience and 2 test centuries. He should get the first crack as the one who has experienced test cricket previously. He's also playing well so far this Sheffield Shield season.
