It was disappointing to hear on trade radio this morning that Stephen Wells said that Tuohy's management officially inquired about a move to Geelong before the end of the season.
It seems that Tuohy checked out before the end of the season, before the contract offers and is no better than Henderson.
Breaks the warm, fuzzy feeling. I hope that Geelong pay a premium. It is not our problem that they don't have a pick before 35.

North interested in Bulldog Hrovat
North Melbourne and the Gold Coast have joined Carlton in interest in Western Bulldog Nathan Hrovat.

The young Dog is likely to draw a third or early fourth round pick this year or next in a trade.

looks like we have some competition for Horvat but our 3rd rd beats north and if he wishes to stay in vic which he prob will we should get him.

North Melbourne are one club I'd be very confident going up against to entice a player.

If Tuohy "checked out" at the end of the season then we should be demanding a 1st rd selection 4 him

Rd 19. Hawthorn. 35 disposals
Rd 20. St. Kilda. 25 disposals, 3 goals, 5 tackles
Rd 21. Brisbane. 24 disposals,
Rd 22. Melbourne. 15 disposals
Rd 23. Essendon. 24 disposals

Not saying he didn't put in but it seems that he had already made up his mind that there were greener pastures on the other side of the fence.

Mate players have to weigh up their futures and would want to set up plans as early as possible, before it's too late.

There is nothing wrong with approaching Geelong before the season ended...im sure basically every player manger does it.

It would seem we have been into him for longer though and already made a formal offer to Hrovat and the Dogs.

You'd think he would prefer to stay in Melbourne and our pick is better than Norths, plus he would be guaranteed more opportunities with us given our midfield.

Only thing that may swing him to North is if they offer him a bigger and longer contract...which has been happening to us.

think he meant before end of THEIR season?

Rumours of others joining the fray for Hrovat are worrying, but not surprising.

As well as very obviously filling a midfield need for us, he is also a very upbeat, positive character, very popular with his peers, and a strong leader - he's the type of character that all clubs would like to add to their mix, but for us, it'd be a real loss to not entice him.

If we get him, hopefully he can be a positive influence on his schoolmate, KJ.

(1/3) Rous on Jarryd Lyons: We're having dialogue with the club (Crows) around where he sits. He's got an intent to stay

(2/3) Rous on Lyons: It's got to be fair and work for all parties. What was mooted yday on the Blues, that's unlikely

(3/3) Rous on Lyons and clubs interested: It'd be about half a dozen. It's a mix (Vic and interstate)

Doesn't sound like Carlton interested at all

Happy to get a few little blokes in if they are good, quick and apply pressure. We're no good when the opposition win the ball, we don't apply pressure. Guys like Cripps and Fyfe who are big midfielders are great, they win a lot of the ball and clear it well but don't apply much pressure when the opposition win the ball. Guys like Daniel, Rioli, Puopolo, Johannisen, Dahlhaus etc, sub 180cm players, they are very quick off the mark and they are onto the opposition extremely quickly when they win the ball and aren't prone to being side stepped. You just don't maintain possession easily or have time with the footy around them because they get onto the ball carrier so quickly. Need a good mix of big bodied players and small players who can apply pressure, run quick, move quick off the mark and apply pressure and we haven't got any of that. We just give the opposition too much time with the ball and time to clear it cleanly because of it. Love how a guy like Daniel can be having a stinker but still be in the game with his pressure. Same with all the mentioned players really. Both grand finalists did it with small, quick agile players good at applying pressure, we need to get quality little blokes into our list who can do the same and dispose of the ball well. Like all players they still need to be good.

This would happen all the time as a player comes out of contract. Firstly, this is his livelihood and he (his manager) may have sensed the stalling tactics. Secondly, managers would not be doing their job if they didn't gauge interest to drive up or hasten the contract offer. Shit, Mitchell has done this to us in the past.
