SOS has had a busy week.
Williams is the Father-in-law of Dylan Shiel!
Mitch McGovern out with a shoulder injury!
This has got SOS's fingerprints all over it.
Coincidence????........I think not!

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app

And Sheil out with an ankle.

SOS is changing strategy - shoulders had become too predictable!!!!!

Yeh but they still managed to turn over the majority of there list and staying up while doing so. The talent is coming from somewhere and they haven't needed high end picks to find it.

Their "talent" was brought in years ago and provided their base.

I.e what we don't have

Hanners is broken.

This game is about a functioning body. See Thomas who is slow as treacle.

#Lessonslearnt
GPS tracker has Thomas as our quickest player. Highest in-game speed recorded this year by a Carlton player with no one else even close. Equal highest in the league that I can find too actually, but I haven’t been through every game.

Doesn’t look slow just using the eye test either IMO

Allright I will say it. If we were to get Lukosious & Shiel and a couple of small forwards have solid years and we get a reasonable run with injuries we would be an outside chance to play finals next year and good things in 2020.
Shiel in tandem with Cripps, Kennedy, Dow, SPS, Fisher and Ed with outside run from Murph & LOB makes for a midfield that holds its own with most and will improve year in year out for the next 7 years or so.

From the coach's survey...

In other highlights of the survey, the coaches said:
  • Stacking a forward line with smaller players was the most important tactical innovation of the past three years

And the team that most convincingly beat Tigers this year?

West Coast with Darling, Kennedy kicking 9 goals v Tigers 12 total of goals.

Let's not try to "out Richmond" the Tigers - it never works.

We are way better off to forge our own path.

And if we dont get Lukosious and Shiel? Or Whomever else is touted on these rumour pages. What happens then?
Well maybe the guys we already have, another year older will begin to do it anyway and push for finals. See, no player or two players changes things that much especially in a team down the bottom. Never has and never will. Its a very risky mindset in My humble opinion. It takes a lot more than that from where we are at.

I'd counter with heat maps, but with 41 disposals for the year from Pickett, there's not a lot of heat to go around. I get he's been injured, but 8 disposals average isn't enough.

FWIW

Castagna & Butler averaging 11 disposals, Bolton 8, Rioli 12, Graham 14, Townsend 9.

Forwards in the Premiership favourite are not exactly massive accumulators of the ball.

Watching the games, he def looks slow. Gives away a lot of free kicks, is clanger heavy. All good indicators of being too slow and rushing. All for an experienced player who shouldn't panic...unless he is slow by AFL standards.

I've watched him in game for speed. I've also watched J Silvagni for speed also. I have no issue with Silvagni but do with Thomas.

Damian Barrett is also reporting on a serious salary cap squeeze at GWS and that Shiel's name keeps popping up. Out of contract at the end of next year, known Carlton connection and a team like us that has the assets to get it done. I'm fully expecting GWS to move him on.

Damo said something similar last year and floated Lachie Whitfield as a name that kept popping up and he re-signed shortly after. I like Damo and follow him closely, but I’ve noticed he doesn’t seem to have a great source when it comes to GWS.

I do believe that this particular move has legs though, as Tom Browne and Tony Sheehan have also mentioned it.

Agree!

Richmond v talls (that i can be bothered with on a Friday night)
Round 1 v carlton
Charlie 5 goals

Round 2 v adelaide
Jenkins 5 goals
Tex 4 goals

Round 3 v hawks
Roughie 4 goals

Round 9 v wce
Darling 6 goals
Kennedy 3 goals

Round 12 v port
Westhoff 3 goals

Round 13 v cats
Hawkins 3 goals

Round 15 v swans
Buddy 4 goals

Round 16 v crows
Jenkins 3 goals

Just to show talls go ok against the tigers.
Im glad we have Curnow and H. Add some mids and some quality forwards and i think we will create the new method of winning with what we are creating

He's contracted for next year though. So salary cap issue wouldn't be an issue.
I find it seriously hard to believe that GWS would sell a contracted Shiel, when they have a chance of winning the premiership next year. I call BS

If Sheil were to net GWS a R2 pick as FA compensation next year (say pick 31) - then maybe Pick 19 this year in a very strong draft would be attractive.
Not saying they would be happy about it - but given the choice maybe they would bite.
Time will tell.

Lukosious is ours to take if we want him.

The Tigers finished 13th in 2016 and bought in Nankervis, Prestia (remember us all laughing when they gave up pick 6?) and Caddy and won the flag the next year.

I wouldnt be thinking like that if i were you

I know what you mean, players can be fast sprinters and still look slow with just how long it takes them to get the ball on their boot. I've pretty much got the exact opposite opinion though - I don't see Thomas as having slow actions, but very much do see it in Jack & think it's his big weakness.

Fisher is the flip side - looks incredibly quick because he takes an eyeblink to kick the ball, yet is a slower sprinter than both Thomas & Jack.

Interesting point. I'll watch again after your thoughts. At a much lower level of footy (went to same school as Fisher/Rance) a lot of people thought i was very quick on the field. Yet, lined up in the 100 metres, most of those guys beat me by 5 metres or more.

It might be a moot point though. We want fast 'footy players on field' and I still think Thomas is slow in that category.

They weren't is Sydneys case. I think Grundy may have been the only other player on the list so they picked up 15 premiership players in 6 years while staying at the top.
I think Geelong have 15 players playing tonight who weren't on their list in 2015
