Would a future first and second get Setterfield and Shiel? Setterfield is no different to any of the other former early draft picks we have taken from GWS. Picked early, hardly played and often injured and they never cost us a great deal. Perhaps even one of our second rounders or the PP. I think our next year's first will be better than the compo pick and what Essendon have to offer for Shiel, they would probably expect it to be a pick in the top 5.

The way I see it, next years first is likely a good early pick and better than what they will get for Shiel at the same time and should trump Essendon's offer. GWS just have to wait a year to use it and lose Shiel for a year.

If they take that then you add Shiel, Setterfield and Walsh to the midfield plus who ever else, really bolsters things in there and actually starts to create a little competition for spots. Gives us depth and rotations while keeping the age range right.

Reckon if we are looking at a key defender with a few years on the clock like Goddard or Collins, it's probably because we are going to trade Jones. To me that seems like the likely option because he's the only good player we can afford to lose because I reckon we have the players to move forward without Jones and he has trade value to the top sides. We know a side without a key defender on the verge of a flag will pay top dollar for one. Typical property development, buy cheap, do it up, sell high. Could be a surprisingly good pick there if the demand is high enough. Rowe would be very likely to play on IMO, he's as fit as ever and been doing a job, should be able to be there long enough to see Macreadie transition into that role and leave us with Weitering, Plowman, Macreadie and Marchbank as our bigger defenders with Rowe and Goddard in reserve.

This years pick one is probably off the table. I think all of next year's picks should be on the table for good players as those draftees are getting a little young for where we are at and where we want to peak IMO.

Barlow, Wallas, Libba are all good at what they do but you do not want too many of this age group and slow like they are in your side. Our ball winning ability is already ok and already on the slow side with Cripps, Kennedy, Curnow etc not being super quick. We need a couple of explosive types, guys who have the size and skill to play inside but have a burst of speed plus a heap of wingers, flankers and pockets who are hard nosed and fast.

There's a fair bit of work to do to add players and aspects to our game like depth, rotations, speed and pressure. Those are the things which are missing and what we need to address. If we build with quality and the correct age range then we will build a good side.

Can someone give me their opinion/ low down on setterfield

A really smooth mover Eskie, around 191CM, best way I could describe him is a midfield version of Mundy. Tough, high tackle rate, half of his possessions are contested, breaks well from a stoppage before using the ball. If he is finally over his injuries, would be a very, very good player

Agree with you , our 2019 1stRd pick probabley a top 5 will be an excellant pick in another strong top 10 and it will be more than adequate compensation for Sheil and Setterfield , considering GWS list pressures and complications too.
Fair and equitable for both parties.

thought this was the west footscray fire when I looked out my window this morning - turns out it's the server hosting the crows bf site...........

Might be my favourite post this year and I can smell the smoke from where I am so I keep laughing!

No idea what the guy even looks like, can someone tell me what kind of player Setterfield is and if he has shown anything to date?

Not sure how many have seen the article on Fox Sports, but apparently we are keen on Hugh Goddard (recently delisted by the Saints). Silvagni had a secret meeting with his manager so seems like it's a strong possibility of happening.

Potentially a free replacement for ASOS. With ASOS retiring and JGM likely being delisted, at the very least we need to look at a guy like this for the Northern Blues who can put pressure on our regulars to perform.
Can’t have been that secret....

Agree Arrow if Silvagni snares this younster and all goes well , one always needs some luck gets his body right he's a top 5 pick a great and addition to the our team.

I know everyone assumes that's an issue but is it?

He's an absolute beast when playing..

I would think the only issue is his 2x ACLs.

Agreed. I'm worried about the knees. I think the nose-candy is partly a thing of the past for him, and partly not that huge an impediment to success.

If we think his body is up to it and the price is right, he's a decent bet, I think. Can seriously play.

I will literally spew if we use our number 1 pick on McGovern.

TA

It would be so outlandishly stupid I can't believe it would happen.

But then, the good ol' CFC has shocked me before. I *think* those days of ineptitude are past.

All talk aside , and focusing on footy, especially midfield he's a gun, fine player. We all know that. Keep our fingers crossed , and for free well it would be huge for CFC.

I think we should use pick 1 on lukosade...after this preseason H and curnow should have capacity to form a decent forward combination and Luko will most likely make good contribution in his first year...following year we should have a pretty good forward structure with flexibility to play any one of the three up the ground as they are all pretty mobile..
With remaining picks/trade options get a couple of mids and small forwards...

- Trade picks 11 (pp) and 27 to adelaide for MM and 21
- Trade picks 21 and 26 to a team, either north or Sydney to get a pick upgrade (?10)
- Trade pick 10 to next years 1st to gws for shiel, Setterfield and gws' 2019 1st.
- Go to the draft with pick 1 and select walsh.
- take Libba as a FA

If we take MM this year id much prefer Walsh. Looks a jet.
