Personally I can’t see us getting all 3 of McGovern, Shiel and Setterfield with #24, #25 and 2019 #1-4.

We’ll need to somehow transform #24 & #25(Jones?) into a lower pick for McGovern and hope can manufacture a state league player + change for Setterfield.

Maybe trading Jones to a premiership contender who needs a full back + paying his salary if we can fit it under the cap can net us a decent pick to throw in as well...

An Adelaide board reminds me of a joke/saying that one of my old mates used to say all the time.
It was “Be sure not to take a poo before midday whilst visiting Adelaide, or else you will be bored in the afternoon”

Never been to Adelaide so can’t comment ;-)

Adelaide is a lovely city to visit, but I couldn't live there.

Expect more meltdowns over on the Adelaide board. Impeccable source told me Betts wants out of the Crows and his manager has spoken to us if we’re interested in making this happen. Also said Dylan Shiel will be more than likely joining us. Happy to pm mods my source.

Fully sick....I missed you Eddie

MM doesn't warrant a higher pick than a second rounder. People thinking he is worth more are delusional. Yarran was contracted and wanted out and got us pick 19. Tom Mitchel was traded for pick 14. MM is 24 and played 48 games.. he's hardly set the world on fire. Let's keep things in perspective.

Don't do this to me! MEB_ is still getting over Eddit leaving. I fear if he returned she might combust.

Adelaide would want a high pick for Mc Govern. Settersfield and Shiel would be a package.

We would have to trade pick 24 and 25 to sydney for 13.

Then on go 13 to adelaide for McGovern and 37.

Then Shiel and Settersfield for 2019 first pick (1-5) and Lobbe (I like him but if we're keeping pick 1 someone has to go) plus #1 state league player. They will get 2 players that will go into there 22 and get a top 5 pick for next year. win win.

Casboult to Gold Coast for 41

Then keep or use 37 and 41 to upgrade to a higher pick. So we walk into the draft with pick 1(Walsh or rankine),37,41 plus a state league player of choice.

So we lose O'shea, Mullet, Casboult, Wright, Lobbe, maybe graham and Kerridge
and get in Shiel, Settersfield, McGovern, State player, Pick 1 and 2 more picks.

The SOS legend continues!!!
Don’t underestimate the work sos did last year with the Gibbs deal. Not only did he get pick 10 (O’Brien) he was left with the bulldogs 2018 2nd rounder and the Crows 2nd rounder to give him currency for this year and as a bonus he still nabbed kennedy, truly amazing trading.

I reckon we need jonesy because he’s our best spoiler when caught behind.

My feeling is that responsible list management and development at Carlton knows very well that you cant compete without a midfield capability and blue coloured glasses high hopes and best intentions are no substitute for on field capability. I'm more interested in maximising the utility and development and support of Cripps/Dow/Fisher/Kennedy/SPS/LoB/Charlie/Harry - than pining for another skinny kid who will get monstered week in week out a he 'learns to endure' and has to cope with expectations and losses week in week out- as we are now it is an unsustainable mess.

Shiel + Setterfield + McGovern = 2 years of good to very good list development - you have to pay up for that kind of jump. You are buying in one of the games top10 mids a potential superstar in Setterfield and a strong addition to forward potency in McGovern. If it means using a couple of first rounders one way or another - it is an investment that has to be seriously considered knowing that it could go wrong - just like any fancied high draft pick(s) could go wrong.

Posturing about the value or cost of this versus that when the Club has not only the pressing need but also the capability of getting in quality wont get the job done.

the Club wants Shiel and Setterfield and McGovern - therefore it will pay what is required if the first two like McGovern nominate for Carlton.

the benefits of a Shiel nominating will make other signings easier this year and certainly help perhaps even more next year. Trades don't have to be zero sum games ala Adelaide thinking.

That’s true but he’s contracted so Crows have the upper hand although they’ve painted themselves into a corner a bit because there’s no way he can go back into the group. It’ll be a case of who blinks first.

I'm not really sure Crows do have the upper hand. It looks like something has seriously gone wrong over the last year between he and the club. Yes he is contracted for another 2 years, however it appears that both sides are keeping quiet about something, about why McGov wants out and the damage is irreconcilable.

If Crows try to play hardball i can foresee things getting ugly!

Look at Melbourne - got Dom Tyson, Pick 9 (Salem) and 53.

But gave up pick 2, 20 and 72. Pick 2 was Josh Kelly.

It can seem to make sense at the time on paper but make you look like a fool later.
Yep.

You could get Tyson and Salem types for second round picks and loose change in the cap.

Getting Kelly out of GWS is going to cost someone plenty.

At the end of this trade period I would appreciate someone smarter than me to summarise the nett gain from trading Gibbs.
So far it’s
O’Brien
Kennedy
Pick 40 2017 for pick 30 2017 (DeKonning)
Adelaide 2nd 2018 downgraded from our 2nd 2018 ( so almost neutral)
Bulldogs 2nd 2018
Adelaide 3rd 2018
That’s an amazing outcome and those 2nds may help nab McGovern, setterfield.

PS I think I just summarised it myself!!

Do we go all sentimental and take a player past his best and against our stategy thinking as stated. Or is the toxic environment over there the cause of the problem with his form and there is two years to be had from a guy that will do twice what Wright was able to?
The real benefit I see is in membership and crowd numbers. Folks love Eddie.
But no I dont see it happening.

Who would have known that Kelly would turn out the player he has become.

Breaking down the deal:

Demons: Tyson, Salem, Hunt - Lost Kelly, Gardiner (Pick 20 that eventually landed at the Lions), pick 72 not used by GWS

Kelly was a big loss, but the Demons really didn't have a bust, with the players they selected

Spot on.

It’s basically like that, a very good player to be would have at least 70-80 games. Yes Adelaide have been a good side but 24 with 48. Nothing more than a second rounder with his injury history.
