D'you think you could justify trading SPS for Shiel for me?

Why would GWS take that, and why would we do it? I'd like a broader set of reasoning, because I cannot fathom why we, they or you would advocate such a thing.

But McGovern is going to cost a pick in the 20s, and maybe one of the mature pre-listed players. No need to give up a young kid with serious x-factor who loves Carlton.
Yeh I understand and can see both sides of the argument.

I was just thinking if we wanted to be rutheless, maybe something like that could happen.

Crazy talk.

We won't give up and of our young talent and McGovern is worth around an early 2nd round pick. That's it and it will be done

I would do this trade. This rates SPS as a top 5 pick which he is no longer worth that. (IMO). SPS would barely be worth a first rounder ATM let alone a top 5 pick

Not really. I would describe it as left field.

It's essentially trading 1 potential gun for 2 potential guns.

Don't let your bias cloud your judgement.

SPS has been ok, hasn't blown anyone away. Played 42 games in 2 years and out of those I would only rate 3-4 as being excellent.

I'd take mcgovern and rozee/smith over just sps.

Agree

Personally, I'd be quite happy if I didn't ready any "let's trade out X" suggestions involving any of the following:

(by age)

Simpson
Thomas
Murphy
Kreuzer
Ed
Docherty
Plowman
Byrne
Cripps
Garlett
Lang
Pickett
Marchbank
Charlie
Cuningham
Kennedy
McKay
Jack
SPS
Polson
Macreadie
Fisher
Weitering
Kerr
Williamson
Schumacher
De Koning
O'Brien
Dow

That's 29 names, so for mine there's another 10 that are fair game as it stands. The first 5 will all retire some time from the end of next year to maybe 2021. There's a few names in there that might be off the 'don't mention them in trades' list in another year or two - Lang, Garlett, Kerr, Jack - but for now let's try and leave the core of our next premiership side (and our elder statesmen) together as we begin our ascent up the ladder...

Everyone has a price, even SOS knows that. Would 100% trade any of them for the right price.

Yes he would be for starters, but internally we’ve invested in him. When you make an investment why trade out and lose on it before it’s reached its potential. Absolutely ludicrous.

Without a proper pre-season.

More bias, one eyed, unsubstantiated talk.:straining:

Trading SPS makes NO sense from any angle.

We will get McGovern
We will get other very good players by trade
We will get other very good players through draft
SPS has elite potential and has done a great job in just 2 seasons
Trading SPS would really damage camaraderie and culture amongst the young group
SPS doesn't want to leave and loves the club

You don't even get SPS appraised let alone trade him FOR **** SAKE

Look.

On one hand, that's not a great illuminating statistic, not when he plays for us. We're pretty much guaranteed to play him, so shorn we are of other options, and that he's only ever been injured during the preseasons have crueled him from showing more at AFL level.

On the other, he's not worth more to another club than he is to us, and right now is nothing but upside. Trading him would be among the dumbest things we've ever done.

Yes I’ve got to say, there are many, many elements of the ‘old Carlton’ I’m delighted to never see again.

But there’s a certain swag that only Carlton can seem to muster with these things which I love and celebrate. Flying players around on private jets??? It’s beautiful, it’s Carlton, and long may it continue.

Yeh Baby Yeh. Love it.

I thought the same with Sydney, Hawthorn and Mitchell and thought we were a massive chance but they ended up giving him away essentially.

And you don't think Sydney regret it big time?

They traded a future Brownlow medalist to their direct rival for a set a steak knives. That trade is all the more reason no Sydney club should deal with Hawforn.
