Did you even read their post? Outside of Shiel, who is the other established 24-27 year old midfielder we are meant to trade for, or that we were supposed to be targeting? Polec? Or were we expecting Gaff to sign somehow??

Facts:
We can't target who isn't there
We can't court guys with a 2 win season

The only other option was to throw Pick 1 at Shiel. And for what? Walsh over 10 years + vs Shiel over 5-7. Which do you really, really think is better? Sustained success of short term?

You're livid with the trade? Think about what you're posting.

We traded 26 and 28 and McAdams
26 and 28. If we go to the draft, what are we getting? 18 year old prospects - not 24 - 27 year old midfielders.
Pick 13? Again, another 18-19 year old.
McAdams? State League is a lottery. And he is not an established AFL player, as you're asking for.

Think about what you're posting lol.
Yes at first sight doesnt seem theres much available but then again who thought Neale would want out at Freo .
The players we have just signed or are about to sign Setterfield and Mcgovern are both contracted .
Theres always players available if you really want them .
Atm it seems we had all our eggs in the Shiel basket .
Lots to play out yet so we shall see .

anyone heard anything on other moves we are going to make to bring some picks back in?

Hopefully with yesterday done and dusted we are not looking to on trade our next years first

We could have had pick 1 pick 13 plus Mcadam in a super draft instead of getting MM. Get two elite midfielders with these selections.

True, but with Walsh and Setterfield coming in, I think we have enough young talent to go through the midfield;

Cripps
Dow
Walsh
Setterfield
Fish
SPS

Forms a very strong core of quality mids that will grow and work as a unit for the next 8-10 years.

What I do think may happen is our 2019 1st may be in play for Setterfield and someone else..

Would love us to work this in - getting back into the 2nd round and still getting our man. Lukosius is a special talent and deserves Pick 1 status but could just see Suns f***ing us and picking Walsh - so you'd want to be bloody sure and equally happy with your 2nd choice.
Nah mate, I stuffed up, cause if GC knows we want Walsh it completely defeats the purpose.

We looked fatigued constantly throughout 2018, not unfit. We looked like we hadn't had adequate rest through the week, not a failure to train. The first leg of that rumour is spin.

You work out an approximate trade value before you talk contracts with the player, not after. We didn't get stuck with McGovern, we seem to accept this as his market value...
You can call in fatigued if you like, when.I watched us live I believe we weren't fit enough, playing injured guys who werent a min of 95 % fitness and too many that are 1-3 year players.

Shiel hurts - Only because he went to Essendon. We offered overs in money and keeping our first picks this year and next year will net us good players.
McGovern - We paid what we did to get him. We have enough kids, we wont miss those 2nd rounders and McGovern has untapped potential. Done quick enough to ensure we might be able to make a couple of moves in the next week as well.
Setterfield - Get him right and the sky is the limit.

The pieces are in place, now it is up to the club to make sure the boys start living up to potential quick enough for Cripps to make sure he sees out his career here.
Why does the sky always have to be falling. Be patient we have no other choice. IT WILL COME!!
:thumbsu: as vo runs out of sight.......

I wouldn't have given up 2 second rounders for MM personally.

Going in with only 1 pick in the top 40 picks (as it stands) isn't a good strategy imo.

A good strategy for what?

We were always looking to add senior bodies and they cost draft picks.

Tyson seems to be North bound. Not sure about that to be honest, they've got enough of that type already.

I still we need to add another mature inside mid into the mix. Wonder if we go after George Horlin-Smith as a FA option. 25 years old, fits the age bracket. Not a superstar but fills a need for us. Always thought he's been stiff to not get more opportunities at the Cats.

Be interesting to hear Reid's take on McG trade on AFL Trade Radio shortly.

Adelaide supporters have every right to laugh at us for paying overs for McGovern.

While we sit here and try to justify how much we paid to make ourselves feel better.

Breaking down the trade, it’s basicaly the equivalent for pick 13 for McGovern and a future round 4 pick for mcadam.

If this is the case then why the melts on the Adelaide board. McG can football. Very solid player.

We may have slightly overpaid but it is not unreasonable. You have to work with what you have. Sydney made out good out of this trade and we needed them to get it over the line. I'd say it is a pretty fair trade all around.

SOS is no smuck, he knows what he is doing. Rather him running things than Justin Reid.

I think our ITK posters are all suffering from PTSD.
as one mentioned to me this morning he doesn't know why he bothers.........fair point......people happy to take the news but too angry when let down by results that don't go our way

That would be North's second big win.

I really don't understand the fascination with Preuss for Melbourne. Salary wise he'll be expecting more than a backup ruckman. Sure, they needed a backup ruck but can you play both of them together?

Yeah agreed, great win for North. I don't get it either. I thought he'd move to a club who need a ruckman.

GHS is GCFC bound

I keep saying it, what frustrates me the most about the McGovern trade is that we paid overs for him (a forward we don’t really need) when we were determined that we wouldn’t pay overs for Shiel (a mature midfielder who we acknowledged we need this trade period)

How does that freaking make sense?

No just plain logic. So a guy with 2 games is going to be on mega bucks?
His manager and himself would just be happy to get another contract
Setterfield's contract was heavily back loaded, it was poorly done by GWS. Not mega bucks but when you're well over the cap you need to shed whatever you can. It's rumoured Setters was gonna get around 400k next year.
