So the deal smacks of desperation? Then you agree with my original point.

I've previously nominated numerous ways in which we could have navigated this if we weren't wedded to the idea of MM, but BB wanted him badly.

That's really not what I said at all, Jimbo.

Not desperation - simply the reality of the situation.

We rate McGovern - not sure why you're assuming it's all on Bolton, as undoubtedly there would have been input from Teague, Silvagni and Agresta as well.

He's only 23yo, which is young enough to be a long term player, and old enough to be able to slot into the side immediately and have an impact.

He was contracted at Adelaide for a further two seasons.

So yes, we overpaid a little, because that's what you need to do when you target a contracted player. But evidently we made that decision knowing full well what price we'd potentially have to pay.

And the price wasn't exorbitant. 2x second rounders. I really don't see much in the draft around the 25-30 mark to get all that excited about, and certainly nothing that meets our stated objective of bringing in best 22 players in the 23-26yo age range. Other options at the trade table? I'm not seeing any midfielders valued in the mid/late 20's who've been traded so far. And I'm not really seeing any being discussed.

So all in all - I think we made a calculated trade to bring in a young, talented player who will improve our forward line, using two second round picks which don't seem to be particularly well placed to secure a best 22 midfielder.

It still feels like SOS is up to something. I'm not a clue what though.

I genuinely don’t think he is. I think he’s focused on landing Setters and that’s it. He’s fantastic, but based on the cards we have to play I can’t see him pulling off a miracle - especially if it involves keeping pick 1.

Still think there might be a plan B for next years 1st. SOS would be desperate to bring in midfield support and a bit of depth, given our disastrous injuries this year. I wonder if GWS would do next years 1st for Setterfield, Scully and Findlayson, with one of our future thirds as well, possibly? Gives us Scully as support to Cripps, Findlayson as competition for defenders spots and Scully takes a bit of pressure off Setterfield to come in and perform straight away. I could see Findlayson as a replacement for Byrne :(

But didn't he say something to the effect, that there was more to play out.. surely that wasn't just about Setters?

The rumour drought is causing issues here.

Help.

Help! I need some Bluemours.
Help! Not just any Bluemours.
Help! You know I need some Bluemours.
HELP!

When we were getting Shiel two days before today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now he's off to * and I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I'm freaking out, even though it's early doors.

Help me ITKs, I'm feeling down
And we do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me?

Just heard from a reliable source:

The dog, owned by the Shiel family, and formerly known as Juddy has run away from home.

I’ve heard he can’t stand to be in the same room as any of the family. Definitely gone into hiding!!

Just saw a tweet from trade radio asking whether Carlton fans would trade pick one for picks two and three from the Suns. Has this legitimately come up as a possibility? Surely not.

Bit late now, could have had Shiel. The only reason I can think of is to get Walsh as they see him as a safer bet to stay rather than the SA boys who will fly back home as soon as they can?

btw, i still need to club to pick up someone with the initials DS or i may have to have a tattoo removed. :drunk:

Maybe we will recruit Bailey Smith and you can crudely turn the D into a B. Worked on my high school report card.....

Based on the OR rumour from TC and assuming May goes (and suns pick up another pick in the teens, say 15 from hawks)

pick 1 + next years 1st + Jones -> picks 2 + 24 + Martin

GCS could then trade 3 + 29 -> crows -> good young player + 8 + 21
