Ok i am a big fan of the proposed GWS 4 trade but i dont see how it will get done for only our 1st and our 2nd round pick. Lets say 8 and 26. Why would GWS except this off us when they could get more elsewhere? I would be willing to offer our third as well or even next years second to get it done. Does anyone else think it is huge unders?

Cap space, players preferred destination etc

My point is we have started to embrace the Draft and don't want us picking up fringe players because they are from GWS Look at Jacksh perfect example we could of landed a Peter Wright. We gave up pick 8

Yeah I'd much prefer to give up this years first then next years.

If you have a bad year and no first pick, it would just be demoralising, eg Collingwood (lol).

Gws are going for a premiership, draft picks offer them no real value at this stage. Rumour is silly.

Disagree. They need points to get their academy players.

The current 4 aren't best 22 best they have a full side (besides marchbank).

They will all be asking for $$ in the 400k area (might no quite get that but will be asking), gws won't be able to afford that

They need to reduce numbers (i think).

They won't have to convince players to come to Carlton, they already know half the team, will see senior opportunity and more $$$

except for sustained success and access to their academy. plus they have to reduce their list.

The post was 5048 from page 202 of the List Management thread. He also posted ( at post 5050) a 'statement' regarding the Club's first and second round picks. Seems very assured about his information. Hope he is right.

You can just click on the arrow in the quote and it takes you straight there, rather than searching for a post number.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...l-blues-reinvention-is-creating-a-new-carlton this article is really interesting saying that carlton has been fielding calls from player managers suggesting that we've become a destination club again. Would love to know who the players are?

More than unifying a fractured club, he has begun to heal it. Bolton has helped create the “sense of belonging” by which a newer Carlton might be defined.

Why not enough LIKE for this post, great article:p

Tomlinson worth less than a third and his contract is probably weighing them down. Stewart is probably a "get him off our list situation" because I doubt he'd be high on our radar so the only reason he is in the conversation is because GWS want him to be.

So id say if anything. Both those players are probably us doing GWS a favour.

So then, it is just Marchbank and Steele, and I think considering we're doing them a favour with Stewart and Tomlinson, a 2017 1st and a 2016 2nd is more than fair.
Other clubs would be interested in Tomlinson and Stewart I would say. No need for GWS to give them away for F all.

Tomlinson is still contracted and will get to move to the club of his choice. After last off season, that seems to be Carlton.

I dont know what Stewarts deal is, but we have a history of 4 player trades with GWS.

That's a lot to give up. Our first two picks to players who have yet to prove themselves. Giving up future picks can seriously come back to haunt us. Just look at Collingwood.
We need our first this year for Will Brodie. Big bodied mid who is already playing against men. Apparently the 2017 draft is going to be chockers full of talent and after another 12 months of Bolts work on our list, we will have more trade bait to get back into the first round.

We will also have a harder draw next year and possibly finish lower than this year. That would be a silver lining next year with the way the draft is shaping up for 17.

In the space of 10 rounds we have become a destination players will want to go to. Last years trade period, with respect to the players we picked up, were discards, unable to get opportunity or unproven injury prone players. What Bolton (and everyone involved) has achieved in 10 weeks, players will want to get involved. It really is a "build it and they will come" in terms of culture and when you do that and players name you as destination of choice all of a sudden you aren't bidding and upping the price to get that player, the value required to get said player is driven down. It really does feel like the base has been set now and I predict our ascent will only continue during the off season.
Just further to this -

"According to another insider, Carlton has been fielding calls from player agents for the first time in years."

I like the idea except for Stewart. We'd have Jaksch and Jones, and Tomlinson, and Cas, with Rowe free to move forward as well, and Gorringe...would rather a genuine nippy crumbing small forward than another battling tall.

Certainly would prefer that or a mid but it might be the part of the deal where we take him more so because GWS want us to so they get the extra list spot and free salary cap.

Not sure if true but with our previous GWS4 deal, others suggested that i think Plowman & Phillips were the 2 we really wanted and Lamb was sort of pushed onto us by GWS...not sure if i believe it seeing as Lamb and Sumner have been good for us this year.

To be fair, Stewart showed potential a few years back...maybe the right environment will see him flourish and he may surprise.
Jones' papers are stamped even if he does have 1 more year on his contract, Jaksch is still 50/50, Rowe isnt suited to playing forward full time and Gorringe is still very much not a guarantee.
